Forumites frequently refer to the "FENDER Twin-Reverb" amp........
Mine has twin 12 inch speakers.........
Others seem to have one 15 inch speaker.
Are these 'speaker mod's' that some individuals have made or are they factory installations, still using the "TWIN-REVERB" identifier?
Just curious........ |

Ray, my understanding is that Fender Twin Reverb always had 2-12" speakers. The same amplifier with a 15" was called a Vibrosonic! But I've been wrong before!! |

Right on both counts, Ray. Some folks have put a 15" 4 ohm speaker in the same model that you own. AND when Fender "reissued" the Twin Reverb Amp ( in recent years), they offer it in the same 2x12 speaker arrangement or a single 15" speaker. The current 15" model is called a Twin Reverb Custom 15. And the current 2x12 arrangement is still called a Twin Reverb. _________________ Emmons Push Pull, BMI, Session 400, Home of the Slimcaster Tele. |

THANKS so very much for the informative answers and especially the photo's. Really great information.
When Billy Robinson and Grady Martin were the front line on Red Foley's Grand Ole Opry.....they were playing thro' a FENDER tweed amp with a prominent chrome plated trim piece right down the front center of the grill cloth.
I believe that was a twin-reverb....what year would that have been the "in model"? I unsuccessfully tried for years to acquire one of those.
Before acquiring the unit I now have, I purchased a
"re-issue" of the twin reverb and was totally unhappy with the feeble sound emitted therefrom. |

Yes Ray...It could be the the Fender "V Front Super"...I believe this model was manufactured fom the late 1940's until the early 1950's. _________________ Emmons Push Pull, BMI, Session 400, Home of the Slimcaster Tele. |

A bit tangential to this discussion, I sat next to a Brownface (1960?) Fender Pro the other day, which sounded fabulous. I'd never heard of that amp, though certainly the Blackface Pro's are around (no reverb, 15" speaker, 2 6L6's.)
So how does the brown Pro differ from the Brownface Vibrasonic I used to own and love? Seems like kind of a redundant model.

Hi Ken
Brown Vibrasonic had a JBL 15" speaker, and a heftier output transformer than a brown Pro, which had either a Jensen or Oxford 15" speaker. Other than that, they are pretty much the same amp. |

Thanks! The Pro sounded fabulous, but I suspect might top out in a loud setting.

Wow - it breaks my heart to see that brown Pro. I had that same amp in high school back in the early 70s. Ended up trading it for something or other. Back then nobody wanted them - they had no distortion or even reverb. |

Fender also briefly made the Super Twin and Super Twin Reverb amps.
The stock models had a black grill cloth, 2X12's, 6 power tubes, 180 watts and weighed over 100 lbs..
I got this one from Tommy Butler, who had it modded by Ken Fox to a single Sica Neo 15" in a new cab by Rick Johnson. This one weighs 52 lbs now.
