Does anyone leave a PSG together and transpot it in a road case? Just wondered if it is ever done that way.

i do..it's called a 'station wagon'. ha ha. no, i've never heard of that, but around town i just lay my steel , with a small body cover, down on it's face (legs first) on a big square cushion in the back of my little toyota wag.
when i had a voyager van i just stood it up where the very back seat used to be and strapped it in with the rear seat belt. never had any problems doing this and speeds setup/breakdown immensely.

i imagine you're talking about longer distance and that would take a fair size case to do that.

thinking about it more, however, it would be possible as long as the case was custom designed to support the steel (probably upside down) so that no undue stress was put on the leg sockets.

I've not seen it, but I've heard that Robert Randolph has custom cases that allow him to leave his steels setup during transport.

I Leave Mine SetUp and lay it on a Big Quilt in the back of my HHR,Lighter that way and usually can get someone to carry one end for me. But Make sure you dont get rear ended could cause serious Damage!Randy G. Razz

Hi Jackie, A Texas player named Sam Wolaver(deceased) built a case to carry his steel guitar set up and ready to play. It worked great. Looked like a large A frame dog house on wheels. Would like to see you at our Feb. steel guitar meeting. Jody.

I saw Buddy Charleton show up once in a Chevette with his Emmons Push pull laying in the hatch..

Robert Randolph does haul his steels set up in a big road case , I think there were 2 or 3 in one case.
Up close his steels are beat up, like in a dog fight.

Thanks for the insight. Hi Jody, my band is booked in Galveston at Crow's Cantina every Sunday for an indefinite period. It makes it impossible to get to Katy. I had a great time the last time I was at the jam. We usually play at 3 different gigs each weekend and wondered if the constant set ups are any harder on the steel.

I actually have a flight case that I can fit my steel in setup. The only problem is when I use it I have to hookup my trailer to my truck to move it.

I have one of the D2F covers that I put on my steel and just set it behind the back seat in my van facing forward. Then I slide my pack seat right under it which is also fully set up. When carrying it into a gig I use a small hand truck by just walking around to the front of the steel and sliding the lip of the handtruck right under the pedal board and tilting it onto the truck. The only drawback is if you come to a doorway which is only standard width you have to take the steel off the handtruck.........JH in Va.
