Can a Peavey Nashville 400 amp be used as a bass amp without harming the speaker? If used, how is the sound? I have a friend coming in from the USA and we plan to do a gig with him him on bass. The venue would sit about 100 people. Thanks in advance.
I have not played music with him since1982 when we had a country band in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. stevet

Steve, I would personally only consider using the NV400 as an amplifier head only. I would not attempt to play electric bass through the speaker in that combo amp unless I were playing @ a dinner club, or for practice, or in a home setting. Playing at sufficient volume to carry the bass during a live performance of approx. 100 people present, would potentially cause overloading of the speaker & burnout of the voice coil. Could just cause the voice coil to jump out of the magnetic gap...also, not good. To play thru the NV400 head only with a different enclosed back cabinet speaker of single or preferably (2) 15" drivers within, should work out fine; IMHO no open back cabinet with a single 15" is going to give you what you want for coverage in that setting. I am not a professional audio engineer, but have had a lot of past experience in live performances....an open back cabinet for bass guitar is not normally good, unless the volume is kept relatively low. I'm sure there are others on the forum who know way more about this subject than I, but I wouldn't do it. Hope this helps you in some way; Good luck, Roger Smile Smile

Thanks for your insightful comments, Roger. Perhaps we could use the bass head gong into the PA system rather than use the Nashville 400 speaker. Appreciate your weighing in. stevet

Steve, I asked the same question a while back and was told by several, including some of the very knowleable amp people here on the Forum not to do it.

I played bass through mine at home just to try it and it sounded fine, but that wasn't pushing it.

Perhaps if you do have a PA you could go through it without even using the NV400 at all.

Steve, I know the Vegas had a 1502 speaker which was a Bass speaker with the "ribbed" cone, that would have been ok I guess, perhaps at a lower volume and miced through the P.A, but I can't remember if some Nashville 400's had the 1502, mine has a 1501. Boy you mentioning Kuala Lumpur is taking me back. I was born in Singapore and visted relations there many times, also places like Seramban and Penang Smile ...I know you're from North Dakota? ...I played in Fargo lots in 1984 while touring the States with a Minnisota band.
