.....For about two years now I have been in a transitional period of retiring from the music business that I have been involved in since 1946.
I have not worked since my wife was diagnosed with the big "C", and I have decided that my day is past and I will not work again.
I will soon end my web-site even though it has been very successful for a personal site, receiving almost 40,000 hits since it was first published in 200l.
At the same time I plan to cancel my e-mail address as my wife and I will be doing the "touring thing" in our RV as we planned long ago. I will cancel because I will not be able to monitor my e-mails and I don't want any of my friends to think that they are not important to me.
To my e-mail friends, thank you for being my friend...and to b0b, thank you for providing this Forum for all of us to become acquainted!
Bon Voyage to my e-mail friends......

Gene, as you travel keep in mind you can still get on the 'net at many local libraries. You don't have to become a stranger |

Gene,
We've never met, just exchanged emails a couple of days back regarding your website and "our critters". Best wishes to you and your wife and if you're ever in the central Louisiana area and need a cup of coffee, a pit stop, some help, just come on by.

My good friend, Gene:
I will miss you terribly, but I understand -- and you are doing the right thing. Take your beloved wife and go out and enjoy the things you always wanted to but never got around to.
I will immediately email you with phone numbers where I can be reached. If the mood strikes you, give me a call and let me know how things are going. |

Get a TV dish (some have links for computers) for your RV and a notebook computer--or a cell phone that can work as a modem and you can keep in touch anywhere in the U.S. Hope your trip is fun and safe and I wish you two all the best. You certainly have added a lot to the SGF. Thanks. |

Gene, I will miss you as well. You are doing the right thing and that is putting your wife above all else. I hope the two of you have a great time seeing this great country. It was my pleasure to meet you at the Texas show last year and I have enjoyed your comments on this forum. It will not be the same without you but I sure understand. May God bless you and your wife and I pray her health prospers. In response to the title of your topic, it does matter to the many friends you have made here on this forum. I wish you the best in the days to come. |

Gene - It was so ironic that as I was "coming up", you were "going down"...Then, as I was "winding down", you were "coming back". I remember way back in '68 or so when me and Jack Lee's young nephew snuck in the back door of the American Legion Hall in Del City and listened to you guys, and later played our electric guitars on a couple of songs on your break. I sure didn't know then that I'd later play steel, and eventually meet you after we both "wound down" our music careers! I really wish that little quirk in our live's schedule hadn't happened that way - I know we would have been close pickin' friends all these years.
I truly wish you and your wife well on your travels, and especially wish her the best with her health concerns.
By the way buddy - It DOES matter! |

People do care Gene. I had not looked at your website before. Wow it is great, fine music, the sounds I enjoy and the song selection is very much to my liking, that's for sure. You little life history makes me think I've missed a bunch. and you are only 3 years older then myself. I believe you have been a busy busy man. Like somebody else said stop at a library and give us all a hello. Travel smooth Gene. Thank you Al. |

Gene, I can only echo what all the rest have said - you will be much missed on the Forum, but I totally understand, and wish you and Charlotte many happy days/months/years of travel... We generally manage 3 or 4 weeks at a time traveling in the States, and it's never enough!!
All the very best to you and all of your family, and thank you for what you have given us.
