Can a push pull output transformer be used in a single ended application? I have a nice push pull transformer that I picked us at a ham radio swap that I would like to use in a "Champ" style circuit.
Would you just use the lead from the end of the coil and the center tap?

Hi Frank,
The answer is yes "probably". If the original use was a similar size tubes, that is similar plate current to your new use you should be OK. Use the center tap of the primary to feed the B+ and either end of the winding to feed the output tube plate. Then tape or use heat shrink to isolate the not used winding. This end carries the full B+ so take care about it to not short to ground or "get you" with the full 350 volts.
The plate load impedance may not be a 100% match but the 4000 to 6000 ohms will be near correct. Hopefully, the output impedance will match your speaker. Most communnication type receivers of the 50's and 60's used 4 ohm speakers.
Good luck
Ed
