What would cause a 1965 reproduction Fender Deluxe amp to make a terrible noise when the standby switch is switched on? The amp works great if the standby switch is left on. |

hard to say, when you throw the standby switch to ON you are supplying the HI DC voltage to the amp. Tubes, filter caps etc are now singing the praise of HI DC voltage ! First thing to suspect would be tubes seeing this is an RI amp which makes it newer. Seeing it settles in after awhile that would be the 1st place I would look. Swap your preamp tubes one at a time same with the power tubes,in this manner you can find the one that is causing grief , if it is a tube that is... good luck

The switches can also develop some carbon in them and a lot of arcing goes on they are turned on for just a moment. You can put some tuner cleaner down the shaft of the switch and run it back and forth to clean that up.
If that does not help, at least you will have a clean switch. |
