Any issues with a GFI detuning/staying intune. I have the chance to look at one locally. Those who love them love them and those who don't... Mike Sigler sounds great on his.

The only tuning issue I've had with mine is when you bring it from the cold. That alluminum body takes a long time to climatize. When it finally settles in to room temp it stays in tune great. _________________ www.facebook.com/countrydaveharmonson |

What Dave says. Going from a 50 degree car to a 70 degree stage took a complete 60 minute set to stabilize. I was fighting the tuning the whole time After that...PERFECT ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ Thom Ferman

Got rid of my heavy push-pulls and have a GFI D-10 and SD-10. Great maintenance-free guitars and the best response from any builder. I have been able to order additional cranks and pull rods quickly and without any grief. Gene's goal was to provide the biggest bang for the buck in steel guitars and he has done that.

I have a GFI U-12. I'm very happy with it, on several different levels. But, the one thing about it which was mentioned above is the fact that with the aluminum sides, it is affected affected in a big way by temperature changes. That is the ONLY thing I wish I could change. Aside from that, I love it.

I may not sound good, I just don't wanna sound bad. |

I have a GFI Ultra D-10 for one year and it's my first and only PSG. I don't have any experience with other steels so I can't compare.
Mine stays in tune, sounds good and I was able to install additional bell cranks and pull rods without expert help. |

Guys you are dead on, i have played gigs were my guitar has had to set on a bus overnight in the bottom bin at sub zero temps, and then bring it out, set it up and do a quick sound check,, i will tweek it a little, while she is warming up, and have a nice little pond around it on the floor below, but it always plays and sounds awsome without a hitch.... better then tweeking my emmons at normal temps. the whole show!
Can't beat these guitars, i pulled my Emmons, &
several other brand guitars i have out from the closet the other day, (Played a little on them ) and put em all back and grabbed my GFI.... I sure wish i would have had one years ago sooner!
Just my take on them..

Larry they are temperature sensitive.
The ease of maintenance and service is excellent.
Does the one you’re looking at have the new Stainless Steel changer? _________________ No Avatar only a picture of my Mentor. |

My concerns have been addressed, I purchased a Carter D10 from David Wright today. I had one years ago, I missed the PP sound, went back, but I need a much light and less expensive guitar for casual gigs while my PP stays set up at the VFW house gig. For 3 hours a week I can more than live with the Carter. Bob Hoffner is sending me two Tonealigners so I should be more than set up soon.

Posted 15 Dec 2010 8:31 pm Aluminum Bodies Sierra, Excel, Emci Any Problems?
|
|
Sierra, EXCEL, and EMCI guitars also have aluminum bodies. Do those also have the same problems when they are taken inside on a cold day? I've had Sierras but never experienced that as I kept them inside all the time.
I also had several Excels, which I had to move often in cold weather and did not have any problems I remember. Is this problem unique to GFIs?
Thanks steve t |

anytime you bring a guitar outa sub zero temps into an 70 to 80 deg. room you will (trust Me) have tunning problems of some sort, be it minor or major...
I mean even my old body that God made even takes a little time to warm up! It only makes sense right !
I think i have owned about every brand of guitar one time or another, and they all have had this problem, some more then others, but they all need time to warm up, if they have been cold very long...it's only natural. |
