Today I had a silly idea!

I pulled out two of my recordings of "Together Again"
..one on E9th Pedal Steel and the other on C6 Lap
Steel 6 string.

An interesting contrast resulted.

I think both guitars get the job done.

What do you think???

Thank you Tom Brumley where ever you are.

Yes, both get the job done, and very nicely!
Of course, there are more options on PSG. Some players might say "too many" options, and would opt for a simpler (perhaps more focused) non-pedal version.

This thread reminds me... I have a pedal steel recording and a lap steel recording of Over The Rainbow in the same key and they sound very much alike!

Hi Doug,

Compliments of the Season!

Post up your comparison sometime. I would
like to hear Over The Rainbow. Such a
beautiful song.

Thanks for all your efforts for Steel
Guitar.

Very informative post...I'd love to hear more side by side comparisons like this. They both sound great - I really dig the harmonic depth of the outro of the lap version, very tasty. Thanks for posting, Roy.

The Contrast Pedal Vs Lap Steel

Below is an audio clip I posted in another thread that might be of interest here. It's a medley of three Christmas songs. The first two are played on an Emmons push/pull and the last song (Silver Bells) is played on a Fender Stringmaster. I like the sound of both instruments, although I tend to favor the Stringmaster a bit more. It sounds "warmer" in this recording.

Roy,

Both beautifully played, but IMHO, on this occasion, the pedal steel took the honours.

Kay

PS: I too meddled with the idea and did a lap/pedal steel combo on "Harvest Moon", posted somewhere on this forum.

Thanks Steve, Doug and Kay!

When the two instruments are played by the
same artist it is interesting to note that
the signature touch is evident in both
examples.

Nice to have your participation Doug.

Roy
