I need input on Evans-large cab, the later Evans 19" cab, and the new SE amps. Do you find one any better than the other? Pros and Cons

I was hoping for some input before I jump off the deep end and spend $1500.00 for a new one.

I have an early 80's large cabinet Evans and a newer small cabinet. Both are great amps. The older large cabinet seems a little warmer that the newer one. If you get one, take time to play around with the settings. A little turn of the knob goes a long way. I use mine for fiddle, steel, and guitar. I've owned several and they are work horses!
hope I helped a little.

I have a 200 head. The reverb failed and the tank is no longer made. Other than that I like the tone for steel. I like that its small and lightweight too

I have an E-200 in a large cabinet that I bought used nearly 10 years ago in great condition from a friend of mine locally. I replaced the BW 1502 with a 1501 which is a little brighter and more to my liking. it is a super sounding amp. Every steel I ever plugged into it sounded great. Clean, full, just great. About 5 years ago I had one of the Forum electronic guru's do a little tone control mod to give a little more control over the highs. No change in tone just a little more control. After the first of the year I plan on listing it for sale on the Forum. No dislikes about the amp just more than I need as I age.

OH! the one one weak spot would be the reverb. I use an outborad reverb and delay so no big deal to me.

IMO you can't go wrong with an Evans old or new. Smile

I have been using Evans amps since 1983. My first was a 1983 FET LV in the small cabinet, which I prefer. In 1999 I purchased an SE200, paid over twice as much as my first Evans. They are both great amps, but quite honestly I prefer my 1983. The 1983 is my prime amp. Sometimes, if stage area is sufficient, I prefer to use two amps and that is when I use the SE200. I changed the speakers (nothing wrong with the originals) because I found two custom made matching 1975 JBL speakers for a fantastic price and I have matching speakers when I use two amps. Evans are a great steel guitar amp as long as you purchase the one's built for pedal steel.

Thanks guys for all your replys' on the forum and private messages. I have played through a Session 500 for over thirty years so it's kinda hard to change. I like the warm tone of the Evans but I also like the clear low end of my Session. I play a '77 MSA maple guitar and would like the mellow end on the highs but it's hard to tune that in on a Session to sound like the Evans. I'm still stuck on what to do. I'm not getting any younger and it would be nice not to have to carry the extra weight of the 500. Thanks again for your input.

Had a old FET and didn't like it. I think I had a bad one because I have never heard a bad word against the FET amp. Have had two SE200's . One with old style reverb and a new one with digital reverb. Great is all I can say. If I ever just have one amp it will be a Evans.
