I have a "project" amp into which someone (not me) dropped a glob of epoxy adhesive that landed on the speaker cone and has hardened. Speaker is 12-inch. The glob is about the size and thickness of a five-cent coin.

Will this adversely affect the operation or longevity of the speaker? The amp is currently not operational, so I can't try it out yet to see what happens.

And any ideas out there for whether and how it could be removed?

Dale -

Since no one has chimed in here with first-hand info I thought I'd steer you in a direction.

"Google" - "loudspeaker cone repair". There's a ton of methods and suggestions on the subject. You'll no doubt find one which will address your situation.

Respectfully,

Richard

Thanks, Richard. I'll do the Google; I don't know why I didn't initially try that - its usually my first recourse. I wasn't too surprised at the lack of response. Its not a problem you see every day.

i suggest doing nothing. if it becomes a noticeable problem when it is working, deal with it then. probably not a problem.

I'm inclined to agree with Chris on this one. If all sounds well to your ear then let it lay. If it bothers ya then attempt a fix.
