hi folks, after beeing a guitar player all my life i started playing steel 2 and a half year ago.
now i got the offer to join a decent band here in germany that is well booked for playing telecaster, banjo and: mainly steel!
i`m far from beeing good but i will try...
whats your advices for a basic setup that will take me through a mixed program
from traditional stuff(which i like most) to the line dance classics.
so far i got.
GFI ultra S10
Goodrich L120 vol pedal
boss DD3 delay
peavey nashville 112
is there anything i need to add? |

i think you got the right gear. i used a 78 msa d-10 classic xl 8+7 and 76 peavey session 400 amp .that's it
some times i used my vagas 400 amp when i play guitar
and steel

You've definitely got the gear already, now all you need is practice and patience, remember that a few good notes well placed will suffice while you get your confidence up, nothing at all wrong with simple riffs and open space between them. They would not have hired you if they did not think you were able to do the job, so I'll bet you have a ton of fun and everybody loves your playing. |

doin a similar gig here .. with steel, tele, fiddle and some piano. Trying to consolidate all that equipment is a challenge. It sounds like you have the steel gear covered well. Will you use separate amps, and effects, etc. for the banjo and guitar? Not sure if the 112 can handle guitar and/or banjo but I play all instruments thru a Nashville 400 and it sounds OK, but you are limited to one EQ and reverb setting for all the instruments unless you can twiddle knobs between songs/instruments. Steel and guitar sounds good thru a Fender Deluxe Reverb too. You might want to consider a small mixer to send all instruments in one signal to the band PA. Just a thought. _________________ Boston area country musician

leo..since you're playing all those instruments, you must be making 4 times what everyone else is, right?
hard to go light when you set yourself up with those obligations. |

thanks guys for the nice responds, actually keeping things as small as possible seems important to me too.
i do play the telecaster through the 112 but have a boss ME 50 in between, that
allows me to use the same settings on the amp as go go for steel.
i do have a silverface deluxe reverb but couldn`t get a steel sound out of it that i liked.
the 112 makes me very happy so far i think the telecaster sound is very good too.
the banjo is another story, everybody who plays one in an electric band context knows how hard it is to get a decent and loud sound out of it... |

A JBL K120 in that DR would change things around for sure... |

hi phillipp,
i make my home close to tübingen now.
i used to have a pretty nice bluegrass band in the 80s and 90s that worked a lot
in germany switzerland austria france etc.
the last years i worked for different bands in germany and switzerland mainly guitar and banjo.
i always loved the steel but was afraid of getting started
once i finally got one i`m very happy with it and spend as much time as i can
with that instrument.
feel free to contact me anytime and tell me about your experiences |

I too am a "multi-tasker",but with only 4+ years invested in Pedal Steel, I find simpler to be the best.
IMHO
You've got all you need

I don't know why but when I started using both jacks on my Nashville 112 for both guitar and steel instead of using a A/B box the sound leveled out and I enjoy the sounds of both more . As far as banjo , mandolin or even acoustic guitar straight to the board for me . _________________ EQUIPMENT:
