I got an email from a gentleman today who isn't a member of the Forum, but likes to browse the Forum and read the various posts. He asked me a question regarding my BL-705 pickups and asked if I'd answer it in a post here instead of a reply in email (apparently he has a "one-way email" and cannot receive replies ... didn't know those kind of email accounts existed), so here goes with my reply in a post here ...

His question was: "Mr. Lindsey, I see in your signature that you use a ProFex II. Does your Mullen with those 705's sound very different if you run straight through your amps instead of your ProFex? And, is the tone straight in the amps better or worse? Which do you like the best?"

My answer to that is, yes, there is a bit of a difference in the sound if I run directly into the amps as opposed to running through my ProFex. As far as exactly how different they are, I do see a slight difference but not a drastic difference. The way I have my ProFex set and the way I have my amps set, the sound is very similar either way, but the highs are a bit more "excited" or "pronounced" when I'm running through the ProFex. While I normally run into the ProFex as my default method, there are times I like to just go straight into the amps without all the ProFex and the effects rack. As a matter of preference, I prefer my sound through the whole rig as opposed to running only through the amps alone.

If you're reading this reply to your question, here are a couple of examples for you. One song where I'm running only through the amps alone and no ProFex or rack, then another song where I'm using the ProFex and my full rig.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCcqBnR5X04 This is a little run through of "I Just Destroyed The World" and on this one I'm bypassing my rack and running straight into the amps alone (two Nashville 400s). I can't vouch for the quality of my playing on this song, but that's pretty much the sound I get running straight into my amps.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc3V5RcDKjc This one is "Blue Jade" and I'm running through my rack with my ProFex II into the Nashville 400s preamp-in on the back of the amps.

To the guy who emailed me with this question, thanks for your email and I was glad to answer for you. Smile
