Would someone please try this and report back how well it works....last time I posted it, everyone gave their ideas on gluing or bending the finger picks. Apparently no one tried it...and it works perfectly. Wipe your fingers and thumb on the inside of a banana peel and put your picks on, then play....anyone?

Mickey -

Ya wouldn't have to get all yucka with the banana peel if you'd use plastic finger picks made by Dunlop.

Welcome to the club. Everyone ignored me when I posted on them. Not once - but twice!

Respectfully,

Richard

Richard, your fingers dry immediately, and there's no sticky feeling at all....except your picks will not slip or fall off, until you pull them off....thanks.

Not really... I tried plastic finger picks one time, and the tone just wasn't there for me.

As for the banana peel, that means you would have to have a fresh banana every time you played. I wouldn't want to use the same one for 2 or 3 nights in a row. For several years now, I just put the finger in my mouth to moisten, put the pick on, and it stays there until I take it off.

Richard Sinkler -

You are right on regarding the plastic finger picks. I, on the other hand, feel precisely the opposite. It does, however, point towards a theme which I attempt to promote at every opportunity here on the Forum: - "Personal Preference" dictates everything that we buy or listen to regarding the PSG. Sure wish that more folks would get off of that "this is best" kick and start using the words "I prefer".

That assumes, of course, that they are able to discern the difference.

Respectfully,

Richard

Personal preferences dominate at my end, and I love listening to players who do their things differently Smile

As for making the picks stay on ... I wear mine so high up on the fingers that they can't move, twist or fall off - no licking or sticky stuff needed. I have also bended and shaped the pretty thick/hard metal-picks I prefer so they're comfortable to wear.

Apparently steel-players are very-conservative....won't try anything new....but will always give an opinion without trying it....this happened before when I suggesting someone try it as as a test, and nobody did....guess it's too much trouble to peel a banana and report back.

I pass on the nanner peel...main reason is, I'm using coated picks that work better than anything I've tried yet. I have had them on for 2+ hours without any pain or discomfort. Used to do the lick method that worked pretty well. If it works best for you(whatever "it" is)go for it !!

Sorry, I'm anything but conservative, but any type of sticky stuff on my picking fingers will leave residue on the strings since I not only get in contact with the strings with my picks but also with the fingers I'm wearing picks on.

Always good to have options, and I'm sure your solution will work for some of the many players who wear and use their picks the traditional way.

For years, I have used a little shot of xtra hold hair spray and after spraying finger tips lightly from nail end knuckle down, let it flash off and just before it sets up, put your picks on and play. It works very well for me. Seldom ever lose a pick. Jack

I don't like bananas. I'll try all sorts of things, but I'm not going to start buying bananas just to rub my fingers on the peels. I don't use hair spray either.

Nobody's ever accused me of being "very conservative" before.

I've never been accused of being 'very conservative' either. I'll try the banana peel thing sometime, but I don't envision carrying around bananas for that reason, although I do like to eat them.
The saliva method works for me, but I apply it by spitting onto my fingertips--licking them just seems way too unsanitary. Maybe that's from having kids around; it always grosses me out to see them with fingers on their mouth.

I've use the fingers in the mouth as well as a little jar of fingernail polish remover with a foam goodie that you stick your finger in...either seems to work.

I use the bathroom at break and wash my hands with the anti-bacterial soap they have. Haven't died yet (knock on wood). Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green

Richard D.

I used to give lessons to a guy who used plastic finger picks. He had tone to die for.
