Is this a finished project?

Bo,

I'm not sure when this will be released....These clips are just roughs from the first sessions............I can honestly say the final mixes are as deep as anything I have ever been a part of.......This is a real rock experiment with no mainstream concerns......I believe they are getting ready to shop it.

That's some really great sounding stuff there! I've heard these clips on Youtube for a while now and have been watching out for the album since. Hopefully it's out soon. It sounds really cool and not the same ol mainstream stuff.

Paul, speaking of new and not mainstream, I remember reading recently in your posts you were doing some playing with some hard core jazz players. How did that go? Was that a project you were working on or just some gigging?

Gosh, I don't know how I missed this one!

I heard some real nice work going on in there. I was laughing at them laughing so hard.

That's what I'd call a real nice Studio setup.

Paul, I don't know what you had in your head when you played the old intro, and gave it a "Brand New Life" but I sure could use some of that rolling around in my head these days..... Very Happy

Some Really, Really Nice Playing!

What an incredible singer! I usually yawn at vocalists, but this guy's voice grabs my attention.

Question: Why do you say that this music "not mainstream"? I don't hear anything in it that doesn't have roots in mainstream rock music, and the production standards are way up there - cinema quality. What are your (and the industry's) definitions of "mainstream" vs "experimental" rock music these days?

I liked the Bjork tune, State of Emergency, after She Thinks I Still Care. Nice little spot there, Paul.

The slide is steel through a boss EQ pedal which is overdriven on the front end which creates the smooth overdriven tone...With it I used a wompler delay pedal as well. I was given complete freedom so I went for a sound that emulates Jeff Beck......Its also played on the C6th neck.

Bob,

Mainstream is anything aimed at radio as a means to generate sales which in turn brand the artist...I agree, Chris is a unique and a fantastic singer/songwriter.

You guys made my day, Thanks! I'll pass the comments onto Chris. He loves steel guitar.

Paul,

Thanks for sharing this. If you do some records session do you bring your own racks, and what pre-amp(s) you use. Or do you use a mic. for the speaker.

I remember you told me once in The station Inn that you donĀ´t like the non-pots volume pedals and that you prefer the normal volume pedals. Is there a reason for that.
I my opinion the non-pot volume are very quit.
But anyway you always sound great. ItĀ´s a pleasure to hear your sound Paul.

Thanks again,

Marcel

Marcel,

I use volume pots because they are warmer to the initial attack and they don't put any digital point on the tone like the non pot pedals. I use a Little Walter tube amp and speakers for the same reason........Everything I use on sessions is stored at my cartage company.....Cartage brings everything to the date.

Paul, what are you using to overdrive the eq pedal ? I've never heard of doing that for overdrive. It sounds great. Thanks for the you tubes.

Tony,

Nothing....Want a slightly distorted tone push your effects beyond their input level. Some sound good, others not so much.

Tony,

I should have clarified one more issue towards overdriving that EQ pedal.....I could not get the same result through a solid state amp.

I use a Pod Pro in the studio so, do you think it might work with the Pod ?
Do you ever have to record direct ? If so, what do you use ?

Thanks, Tony

Tony,

Whether they are set for clean or distortion tubes have a warmer initial attack than solid state, yet they provide a very punchy sound. Digital gear like the pod which I agree sounds better than most amp modelers still have that harsh edge that is consistent in gear without tubes......

I choose to not go direct because I can not get those types of tones without tubes.....You could also have the engineer take a direct signal out of a tube amp like a bassman or deluxe ....They also have great tube direct boxes which brand names elude me for this purpose......IMO its not pushing air like the speaker but it would be another step towards analog tone ........Paul
