Hello everyone
I just have to say i just spent some time
woodshedding with my good friend Mickey Adams
and realizing my playing has gotten stale over the past year.it is amazing how easy this can happen!
But after about 5 minutes with mickey he had me thinking outside of the box again!i have been a 10 string guy for years, until recently i decided it was time for a change and step it up to a 12 string ex-e9
and now that i have i think there is no looking back
In the time we spent with the pedal steel under the microscope we covered so many issues that are very commonly overlooked ,from the simplest things like tuning issues ,to music theory chords and scale patterns, both major and minor single string runs
playing with fifths, sevenths, ninths, and how to combine all this with the standard pedal steel licks
that all of us know so well.
we also applied this approach to some musical styles
the otherwise would not have any pedal steel guitar in the mix at all, some of our "favorite" southern rock tunes like "Jessica " Ramblin Man" I know a little, just to name a few, and i must say how cool it is to be able to play these songs on the pedal steel effectively!
With the winter months upon us and being the slow season for most of us i am going to apply this knowledge day in and day out until it becomes muscle memory.
if any of you have the time or opportunity to get together with mickey at the steel"or even six string guitar"I would suggest that you do!ASAP!
mickey has a amazing ability to see where you are stuck and very quickly have you out of the rut!and
blazing new trails with your instrument.
well happy holidays to everyone!
keep on pickin!
Ps mickey if you are reading this
Get ready for our youtube video in march!
Bryan.
