Taking orders for Tube-Tone Twin heads. These will come with 4 bias pots so matching isn't needed for power tubes. Comes with JJ 6L6GC, (4) 12AX7, (2) 12AT7 tubes. Magnetic Components Classic Tone transformers. Hand wired to AB763 schematic. Can be ordered custom with no tremolo and reverb dwell and reverb tone controls in place of tremolo. Also can have mid slope control added, or most any other mods. At present, current build time is 4-6 weeks. International voltages available. Price for fellow steelers is $1550. Be sure to mention SGF if contacting by email.

Wattage is your choice of 85w or 100w. The Black Face Twin that is was modeled after, is 85w. It can also be wired as early Silver Face Twin/Dual Showman and it will be 100w.

If you'd like more, it can be custom ordered with larger transformers and KT88 power tubes for up to 200w. Built that way, requires a slightly larger cabinet height.

Would the price come down much if it was just one channel, no reverb, no tremolo? Just a volume control and tone controls on a single channel tube amp. Then one could put a Lexicon (or similar) reverb in front. Isn't that all you really need?

Price could come down some, from less parts and assembly time, but unless you want a bunch of air holes in the front, a custom face plate offsets the saving somewhat. I'd have to price it out but I could probably take around $100-150 off, with custom face plate.

A few nice options for steel to replace some of the missing controls in front, would be to add a slope control for the middle control or adding a dwell control to the reverb. Spring reverb is nice for steel, but 'Fender' reverb can be too 'in your face'. It can be tamed nicely with a dwell control (or smaller value dwell resistor).

Raybob: I wish I could talk seriously with you about amps, but lack of money gets in the way. I guess I am just suggesting that a stripped down twin style head might have a place in the market. But then perhaps bells and whistles still are necessary to make sales.

Good luck with the business. Merry Christmas. Paul

When I have the time, between orders, I'll be coming up with a head for steel, using AB763 Twin circuit and 4x 6550 power tubes, no tremolo, added controls for steel tone. I'll call it the "Steelhead", as in the Trout.
