Hi y'all. I'm quite surprised that we did not hear from this very particular instrument on sale on ebay (sale ended Oct. 2nd) It's a keyless standard D-10 Fender model PS-210, surely built in the 70's (must have been by Gene Fields who had a short tenure with Fender). It's a very strange intrument (look at the right side where you tune the instrument) and I wonder if it has Sho-Bud parts as Fender joined with Shot Jackson for a time to produce a pedal steel guitar in the mid 70's. The underside is as strange as the rest of the instument as it seems it's cable driven altough it says it's rod driven in the listing. Whatever the case, I guess the new owner must be a member of this forum, we'll wait 'till he gives us his thoughts about his new instrument.

Hey Alain, concerning your initial post about the guitar and Gene Fields. The guitar was probably made in either 1969 or 1970. I think that was approximately the year they came out. I was at the unveiling in SoCal at Blackie Taylor's Music in Hawaiian Garderns, Ca.
As for the "short tenure" of Gene with Fender, he had a very long tenure with them before going with Squier Strings which was also a Fender subsidiary.
As for ShoBud parts, there were none on this guitar at all, it was a total Fender creation and designed by Gene.
These were/are heavy beasts but very well built and way ahead of their time. The changer was similar to the old MultiKord unit but it went on the end of the guitar and not on top
I've only seen that one finish on them, has anyone ever seen another one?........JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Jerry, you're a lucky guy to see the unveiling of this instrument. I wonder how much it weighs?
You are absolutely right about Gene Fields being a long time employee, I should have said that this radical design project had been entrusted to Gene.
Gary, thanks for pointing to this thread where forumite Russ Wever has uploaded very nice diagrams of the changer and mecanism. I must have missed it because it was opened in February and reactivated at the time of the sale of this guitar.
Fact is, does anybody knows how it sounds and its playability? This is what I wanted to know at first.
Thanks to all,
