The Emmons p/p student model PUs are not as "tall" as the pro p/p PUs. I was told that they have fewer windings, and are wound to appox. 12K ohms, unlike the pro PUs which are about 17K to 18K.

I do not know about the specs of the PU on the student model.I do know they sound great.I had one and wish I had it back.I traded it for a single 8 fender stringmaster. The Emmons was a great sounding steel and if the PU is wound less or not as tall that could be a bonus as I think it would sound clearer and have less string drag.I think a lot of steels have overwound PU,s making them muddy from the git go and then you try and clear them up at the amp.lakeshrk

I was told by an employee of Emmons Guitar that they were the exact same in every way and that players were buying the singles and adding knees to them instead of buying the pro models so that is why the student models were discontinued. FWIW

I compared them side by side on the workbench, and the student model PU is not as tall, and it measures 12K ohms on the multimeter.

I agree! More windings means more power, and less treble... some would say a thicker more muddy tone. That's why I like vintage pickups. I agree that the Emmons student model has a great sound. Winking

Here's a demo I recorded a couple of years ago using an Emmons student model (3 pedals, 1 knee lever). I sold the guitar here on the forum. Wish I had kept it. Neutral
