Hi , don't usually go to this section but I need some input. I'm thinking about buying an old 50s Fender tripple neck 8. Anybody own one? Pros or cons? Any problems these are prone to have. Thanks for your help Andy Smile Question

If the machine heads and electronics work properly, there are no cons.

I also have a T-8 Custom bought new in 1954. Great guitar. However, the CANOPUS D-8 is now my favorite.

I too love my T8 Custom. Here are some things to look for:

Stripped tuners: Repairing the tuning pans on these guitars is difficult and expensive, and unfortunately, the tuners are not the best quality. Many have stripped over time and will not hold strings at tension. If you can, take the tuning pans out of the guitar before you buy it and see how they look/turn.

A lot of Customs and Dual Pros have holes drilled in the tuning pans where a pedal or two had been retro-fitted. The tuners effected by the pedal pull will often be stripped.

Pickups: A pickup with a broken coil will still make sound, but will be weak in the low end. If you can, test each pickup with a multi-meter and be sure you get a stable reading.

If I was going to buy one of these without playing it, I'd buy one from a forum member who has played the instrument, is familiar with these guitars, and will stand by the condition of the guitar. They are great guitars.

Andy, you didn't say if it's a String Master or a Custom. Which is it? Both are very desirable of course........
