Well once again i got screwed out of a 2 day gig AND 400.00 Buck's because of a Moron Club Owner's lack of intelligence to hire another band once another band was all ready committed and booked to do the GIG For Tunica Sam's Town
I'am posting this to warn anyone who play's in Nashville do not support Tootsie's Steve Smith or John Taylor you will get double booked or screwed out of gig's if they get an idea in there mind .......
And people wonder why i Run Down Nashville so much well here is a good enough Reason i have never canceled a gig unless my car or health just did not let me be there i can name on one hand all the gig's i have missed in a 41 year career including showing up dog sick to work SHOW MUST GO ON !
These Are just 2 name's of many others i could name not to work for in Nashville it is time for you pro Steel Players to speak up speak loud and let PSG fans know what is really going on in Nashville.......
It is a shame we only have these venue's to play on broadway that treat pro's like crap under pay us
double book us and they dont care we have familys and bills to pay like everyone else who works a normal job Music is no different its a job ! |

Double booking is not unique to Nashville. It's happened around here for the 50+ years I've played in bars etc.
I think we all know that when they book a band, they log it in on a calender or book. The only reason for double booking is "keep the lowest price one and slip the pickle to the other".

The Lower Broad Joints used to pay $15 per night per person in the 1972 - 1975 era.
The Last I heard around 2000, The Bars On Lower Broad were paying $20 per night per person. I don't expect they have given many raises and most likely now expect bands to play for the tip Jar. Are You saying you were guaranteed $200 per night? Was that for You Personally or the whole band? |

these stories out of Nashville haven't changed in 30yrs.
I was stage mgr on a show here in the 80s headlined by Jack Greene and Tommy Hannum was the new steel player with the band.Tommy told us about working at a 1hr photo shop to supplement income and told us about the pay on Lwr Broadway . We all laughed @ him and said "Yea , right !". We all at the time had $$$$ in our eyes.We told him what we were making & how much we were playing and saw the in his eyes .He also told us he was working with a new comer in Nashville....Ricky Van Shelton.... ever hear of him ?
We were still doing 2-4 jobs a wk @ no less than $50 each person...4hr job. They still pay $400 up here.(I've seen $500 rec'd for playing for door ! )Granted few & far between .
Aren't there any service clubs(that want to make $$$$) to play at to fight back against Lwr.Broadway clubs ? In the 80s we would've found a firehoue or somewhere & put it on ourselves & split the $$$$$ with them. Can not believe it can't be remedied !
What about TheTimeJumpers...45RPM ? Granted they are great , but what's so different?
I'm just an outsider to Nashburg , but really does it only relie on tourist trap clubs ?
JUST WONDERING & RAMBLING haven't been there since 1992 mean no disrespect to anyone, just curious

Theresa all this is sounding just like Branson. In the last 30 years I have seen thousands of great players come to Branson with dreams. The vast majority starve out and leave, or find employment other than the music industry. Those few that do land a job playing in a music show find that it is never stable, or as rewarding as they thought. Besides everything else, there is age descrimination. How great you play or sing really doesn't matter! Nothing really matters, because each person is responsible for his own happiness. Theresa,in another post your brother said some really intelligent things. Paul Senior raised some smart kids--just my opinion. |

I just like to work steady and have a schedual is that asking to much from moron's in nashville that own club's and book people how dam hard is it to have a spiral bound book and write the crap down or not screw people over because one of your other bands is not working for the weekend so you decide hey its ok i know these other guys are all ready booked in advance and they just cut your throat and work the other guys !!!!! That S--T just aint RIGHT IN MY BOOK !
I have kicked a few club owner's buts for doing this back in the day and took my pay from them to teach em a lesson.
next person that does this in Nashville will get a beating with my steel guitar leg maybe they will learn don't mess with me is that what it take's to get respect ?
Bill the video's is frickin GREAT ! thats going on my face book as a link watch this one my friend made it is so true to form.

I know I shouldn't be posting on this topic because I am a long way from Nashville; however, I think my opinion covers all area of professional musicians. When you publicly insult and degrade a particular area, you are pretty much making your own rope to hang yourself with. I have seen this happen many times by disgruntled musicians. It's a fickle life today and always has been. |

Mr. Rhoads,I don't know you but these continual rants are doing nothing but harming you.Your problems are not your playing ability because you have told all the world to see how good you are.I've been on this forum for quite a few years and I've never seen another steel guitarist brag on the forum about how good he is.You have gotten some excellent advice from forum members about what the problem is but you seemly won't take their advice. You need a change of heart and only you can address that.
By the way,the video that you like so much is actually making fun of you.

In terms of entertainment value, Rusty's threads are starting to rival those from Bill Hankey! I know I should be practicing but, according to RR, there's not much point..... _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

The Rusty Rhoads to happiness is only one door away out of Nashville. Are your Union dues paid in full or did you not read your contract? Rusty this is why the joke is on you.
