Hello!
I'm new here!
I've got a Sho Bud amplifier that I've had for about 15 years or so. It was given to me as a gift and I'm trying to find out more about it.
It's one of the Christmas amps:
I can post more pics at a later date, as it's currently with a friend. I have the schematic for it too, but will have to scan it in.
I'm curious about it since most of these amps I've seen on the forum and online are black.
thanks,
Lauree |

I'm pretty sure that the chassie (maybe even the whole amp too) for these amps were made by Kenneth Cain from San Antonio, Texas. He also made the single channel amps of that era for Sho-Bud.
Probably in the late '60's, early to mid '70's.
I had a couple of them back then and wish that I still had 'em. A really sweet sounding unit. I think mine had 15" JBL D 130's in them and I believe they were 8 ohms,,,not real sure of the ohms.

I have one just like this one. I thought it was recovered, but it looks like maybe Mr. Cain actually put a few tweeds out there. These are sweet sounding amps, but not the most powerful, about 80 watts. I also have a black one but I loaned it out and it never came back and I forgot who I loaned it to. Maybe it got lost in the mail. HA!

I have one that's covered in, get this, original blue vinyl. The person I bought it from says it was "custom made by the company for George Edwards so that it would match the blue Sho-Bud he was playing at the time." I have no idea whether that's true.
Regardless, the amp is pretty cool. |

I've got a blue vinyl one too, even the power cord and reverb tank bag are blue. |

Bobby B. - I have heard also that Kenneth Cain engineered the Sho-Bud amps at some point. I don't know that for sure, but I can tell you that Bobby Flores used to have a Cain amp that he used for fiddle. It was a VERY sweet sounding amp, but a bit underpowered for steel, I think K.C. built this particular amp especially for fiddles. jc |

I thought the Christmas Tree amps had colored lights in the control knobs? Hence the "Christmas Tree" nickname. I don't see them here?....just askin' |

Bobby B. - are you the one who bought my old Cain amp from Herb Remington in the early 80's? It was an amp head covered in Silver sparkle, with two matching speaker cabinets. Also, that amp had a tremelo circuit in it.
Thanx,
Jim |

The amp needs to be turned on to see the colored panel lights.
I love my Christmas Tree amp with Atlec 418B speaker. It's great for steel and sounds real good with a Telecaster. _________________ Dave Zirbel-

Jim,
It wasn't me, but I think it was Scott Landon that bought it. Scott has been dead for a number of years and I was susposed to buy the amp and a lot of other stuff from him when he got real sick and knew that he was going to die. His widow had different ideas and I don't know what happened to most of his equipment.

Hi Joe. I just use the spring reverb. The tremelo doesn't work. I have a Holy Grail reverb for back up. _________________ Dave Zirbel-

thanks everyone for the discussion!
I've always been curious about it. It was given to me along with a '73 Fender Musicmaster as a combo birthday/college graduation present back in 1995. The amp was bought from a guy in NJ (where I'm originally from)
I'll see about getting some more info. & photos of it. My friend has it in Philly now as he was going to "buy" it from me to keep it in the family so-to-speak, but he ended up unemployed soon after. |
