Yes, although I would put an A on the bottom to be the root, except that you've only got 8 strings and you want an E on the top, so ignore everything I just said after, yes.

Everything changed, when I wasn't paying attention and right below me, the distinguished Mike Ihde has the correct answer.

No, all you have is a standard C6 tuning. E diminished would have to contain the notes E, G, Bb and possibly Db.

''No, all you have is a standard C6 tuning.''

?? .........In my book C6 = CEGA. By my understanding of simple theory the G needs to be included for the full sound of the chord.

Tuning your guitar to ECAECAEC is just Am........probably OK if all you want to do is simple stuff in a minor key.

Out of curiosity, why would you want an (Eº) E diminished tuning? Then again, I play in a 6 piece noise band and the last time I was tuning up, I was reminded that tuning is for wimps....

Well, the Leavitt Tuning is a C# diminished tuning (low to high C#, E, G, Bb, C and D) and it allows you to play ANY jazz chord without slants so I think there's a lot of reasons for a diminished tuning.

I've played around with raising the low C on my C13(Junior) for Bb, C#, E, G, A, C, E, G. Very handy for swing stuff with diminished passing chords and all sorts of very fat jazz and blues chords.
