Shocked Hey gang check out this dye job....the pics are all of the same psg at the same time....but look at the radical color change when the light angle changes!!...I don't know how this came about but I'm guessing a chemical reaction between the blue leather dye, and the wood itself. All I appplied was blue....what do y'all think is it cool or no?.....Stormy..[img]

I like it! Cool Kinda like the flip-flop auto colors of the 90's. I have a Blazer that does that. It's called Neon Blue. One light it looks blue in another, purplish.

with my experiences in lacquer I have noticed small changes in finishes but I dont think you will see that big of difference.

I think the color shift is due to different light sources. Were you using flash in the first and third photos, and tungsten (light bulb) in the others?

Hey Storm, did you use that Fiebing's dye?
Tell us what ratio alcohol/dye you used or full strength. What type of finish will you put on top of it? I am quite happy with the Mohawk Nitrocellulose Instrument lacquer that I used.
Your project is outa this world!

Storm, just curious, how are you going to get your inlay sanded down flush ? Project is looking great, the laquer will really bring out the blue. Martin.

Smile Thx Ryan, I know it seems like I'm doin that irridescent effect with lighting but it ain't so. The dye actually seems to have bronzed the more open grain figure and it really does look ultraviolet to a reddish bronze depending on the light angle or just a cobalt blue when looking dead on under bright light... Man! I had a suit in the Sixties that did the exact same colors! You're gonna need to find one of those suits!

The color change is not unusual. It's called metamerism.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamerism_(color)

The color change will likely disappear under lacquer.
