Never had a RP chris, but those fingers look identical to the original Mullens that I've had over the years.

I saw this soon as it was posted. I wish I had bought it.

Does the black color mean that the fingers have been anodized?

Anodized, yes. I had a '95 pre Royal with the same black anod. fingers. I also owned a '94 pre with what appeared to be the same alloy fingers.

I don't want to post a photo on Duane's ad, but I'd be happy to send a photo of either changer to your pm[s].

I think Mullen started anodizing the fingers in either 1993 or 1994 before the RP. The HWP model which I sold up until about 3 years ago all had the anodized fingers. Of course, the changers were completely different in the RP. The easiest way to spot it is that the RP fingers have slots and the pre RP and the HWP models have pins for the string balls. For what it's worth, the anodized fingers have a better tone in my opinion. In other words, it smoothed out the tone on the higher strings.

I agree with Herby. The folks at Mullen have striven to improve their products over the years, and this was just one of them. The silver polished fingers are getting scarce, so repairs usually result in anodized fingers being utilized in place of these. This is one of the things I discussed with Mike just this week in my latest visit to Mullen. Mike is considering machining a cache of earlier changer fingers to keep up with the demand, which seems to be on the rise lately.
If your Mullen guitar needs tuning up, parts replacement, or an overhaul, please feel free to contact me directtly...Ive got factory support, and a healthy supply of parts for ALL Mullen products..
As for this guitar...Del Walters and I have purchased this one in order to overhaul. Del has in his shop right now an almost identical guitar, which came back to him in trade....And this was one of the BEST sounding and playing Mullen guitars that I have EVER played. So be looking for this one to come back to this thread in mechanically perfect condition in a few weeks...Mick

Look for this guitar in about 1 week in this section. The guitar has been completely overhauled and has several new parts. She will play like brand new...and oh what a tone this lacquer guitar has!!!!! Whoa!
