Just to update. Dickey is in the hospital with some heart problems. We were in town early, and off a couple nights. I subbed for him last night. Yes great guys. Rick Price is coming in to fill out the week.

Keep Dickey in your thoughts and prayers..

I am happy to pass the news along, that Dickey is doing better.I talked to his wife
Dee Gee a few minutes ago, and he has improved. He will have a stress test tomorrow
and if he passes it, they will let him fly home. So far the other test results have been good.
Please keep Dickey and his family in your
thoughts and prayers.

Hello to all... Dicky asked me to write everyone on the forum and to say he's doing okay and that he loves everybody.

He was very short of breath and Jake & Sheila took him to Valley Hospital on Tuesday. As Peggy mentioned he's getting the stress test today. They found no clots yesterday which was very good news but he is not out of the woods yet so please keep Ol' Dicky in your prayers. They're trying to stabalize him enough to make it home on a flight, hopefully very soon.

Hats off to Danny for helping us out Tuesday night on very short notice and for being such a pro and doing an excellent job. On top of that, Danny would not accept any pay for the gig and asked for it to go to the DickyMeister. What a big heart and we all appreciate you tremendously Mr. Naccarato.

Rick Price is filling in and is doing a wonderful job and playing his tail off.

Jake's wife Sheila has been at Dicky's side the entire time and is a real jewel to all of us in the band. We couldn't ask for a better road manager, or a better person. She is absolutely the best.

I'll be seeing Dicky today and will keep everyone posted. He is wanting to get to his steel so bad he can hardly stand it! Many thanks for your prayers and concern.

Bobby

We just got back from Las Vegas. I thought I would add to this thread. Last night we took a cab from our hotel to the Excalibur to see and hear Jake Hooker with Bobby Flores and Dicky Overby. We found the lounge area they were playing at and tried to find a seat. The place was packed to the rafters with cowboys and cowgirls and I don't know what all. We ended up leaving the area to get out of the way. I spotted a couple of nicely dressed people with western attire and red ties. I asked them if they knew when the band was going to start, they said they would be starting after the rodeo was over. I then asked if they were the band and they said yes. I explained that I was a steel player who came in to meet Dickey Overby. They explained that Dicky was in the hospital and he was having a rough time, what a shock this was. I asked them what they played and met the drummer whos name was either Jeff Croy or John "Smiley" Reynolds and the manager and then asked the third person what he played and he said he played Steel, I asked him his name and he said Rick Price, I was thrilled to meet Rick since I have heard about him since I first started playing steel. We visited a few minutes and then it was time for them to hit the stage. We found a couple of seats close to the stage and dance floor. I must tell you what a great band this was. Bobby Flores played fiddle and sang great lead and harmony vocals including my favorite "One More Time". Jake Hooker played bass and sang most leads in the style of Johnny Bush and man he had that down and was a wonderful Bass player. The drummer was a blast to listen to and to watch him set the grooves. His name was mentioned above and he was a real friendly cat and made my wife Margie and I feel welcome. Then there was Rick Price, what a player, He was playing a 66 Emmons push pull and had the classic tone of the Emmons with very little if any effects. He had the steel parts to everything we heard down pat with some tasty little tricks of his own thrown in for measure. We were able to listen for about an hour and a half before we had to leave due to a morning commitment. I sure hated not getting to visit more with Rick and regret not getting to meet Jay and Bobby. I can tell you this hour and a half was a steel players dream and it was nothing but classic country shuffles, western swing with some really powerful C-6th from Rick. Rick really knew his stuff on both necks. I had the feeling listening to Rick that the spirit of Jimmy Day was smiling down from behind the stage curtain and singing through the amp. IMHO Rick is deserving of his place in steel history and worthy of every compliment I have ever heard about his ability on the steel. I pray for a speedy recovery for Dicky and look forward to meeting him next time I have an opportunity. God bless the makers of music.

Thanks for the corrections, Jake Hooker and Jeff Corey. Peggy, are you the lady we spoke with that is the manager? I always had a problem remembering names even when I was in the car business. Can anyone of you Texas players help me find and contact my friend John Hill from Fredricksburg Texas. John has or had a recording studio there. Take care All.

Bill, no I am not thier manager, Jake and
all the guys are very gooid friends of mine.
It was probably Jake's wife Shelia you spoke with.
I spoke with Dickey's wife earlier today,and
Dickey is on his way home. He is to see a
cardiologist right away.
Maybe Bobbby can fill us in more when he gets home.

Bill...thank you very much. I wish we had been able to meet and visit there at the lounge. You probably spoke with Jake's wife Sheila. She is a real jewel and we are very lucky to have her as our booking agent as well as road manager.

I agree with all of the above regarding Rick Price. He is definitely a steel guitar legend and it is always a great pleasure to work with him. What a player!

Just got home from our flight in with DickyMeister. I've never seen anyone so glad to cross over the Texas state line, even in the sky!! He is so happy to be home and out of the hospital and so are we. He will definitely be going to a cardiologist immediately.

The doctor told him that it appears he had a heart attack sometime in the past (recently?) and that he needed to address the issue as soon as he came back home. So that's exactly what he's going to do.

So please continue to keep him in your prayers while he goes through this process. He is very serious about getting well and putting this behind him. I believe he'll be going to his cardiologist first thing tomorrow (Monday) morning. He appreciates everyone's concern and support and is in great spirits, as he always is.

Thanks Peggy for your concern and for helping to keep everyone on the Forum informed.

Thanks also to Steve Hinson and the gang for coming out and spending time with us.

Bobby

P.S. Bill...you can contact our mutual friend John Hill at: Loma@fbg.net John and Laurie are beautiful people and I was just out there last month recording with them at their gorgeous ranch. I'm sure they'd love to hear from you. And that's Jeff Croy on drums. John "Smiley" Reynolds played drums the last few nights with us. He & Jeff split that particular gig.
