I wanted to post a "consumer report" comment on Gerry Walker's Stereo Steel combo amp. I played a show a few weeks back that was an outdoor venue with stupidly loud stage volumes, so loud that the monitors alone overwhelmed my steel amp, which was close to being maxed out. And sounded like it; through the monitors, that is. Talk about bringing a butter knife to a gunfight....
Started looking around for a better rig and settled on Gerry Walker's Stereo Steel combo amp with a TC Elec processor. Talked to Gerry and had the combo amp and processor a few days later; spent about a week building a couple of cabinents, called Ken Fox and got a 350W SICA 15" speaker for each cabinent. Put the cabs together and bolted everything into a six space rack and gave it a test drive Friday morning. Sounded great at the house...
Played first club date last night with the rig and can't give a positive enough report. Great effects through the processor (which can have effects parameters adjusted on the fly - without having to reprogram a patch), tremendous power and clarity and in my opinion, the tone from the SICA's is absolutely incomparable. Plus the fullness of sound coming from two cabinents was a delightful suprise. This was a fairly large club, but the board used was only 6 channel - enough for the vx and drums through the mains, still, this set-up had a ton of headroom with gain at 40%, left/right channel volumes at 30% and master at 20%.
This isn't intended to be an advertisement for Gerry or his combo amp or Ken or the SICA's, but I'm sure delighted with them and would recommend this set-up unconditionally. _________________ Regards, Mike "Web" Sparks
