Steel Guitar Jam in Clayton N.C..It is located about 5 miles South/East of Raleigh N.C..Let me know if you would be interested and I'm thinking some where around September 25 or there about..There are Motels about 3 miles from Clayton.I will check on Motels if I can get enough Steel players.I hope to get ten or more.WE will do tracks and if any one wants to play Drums,Bass, and Lead you will be welcome to if not we will do your tracks.I will give you directions from west and east on I-40 and I-95 North and South. Let me know what you think??

Sam, it looks like you're wanting to start a good thing! We live in Springfield, MO, and of course, it's too far to be involved in your jam. There are lots of 'jams' across the country. Some are doing real good and growing. So, I think you have a good thing on your mind! I asked a steel maker one time, "Do you know why God has you making steel guitars?" He said, "No, Jerry, why?" I said, "to give us old men something to do!" Very Happy And it is a lot of fun playing a PSG! Good luck in your endeavor!!

Jeremiah This is not new to me. I'm the Founder and First President of two Steel Guitar Associations. The Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association and the New England Steel Guitar Association.I also ran the First Steel Guitar Jam in Greeneville Tennessee when Anna and I lived there three years ago.All three are still running. The RISGA has been going now for about 13 years and the NESGA has been going for two years. The Steel Jam in Tennessee has been going since 2007.I hope these guys in North Carolina get together and we can do a Steel Jam here a few times a year. I do not want to get involved in a Steel Guitar Association any more as it is to much of a problem. You can not keep everyone happy and I want everyone to be happy.I will be 74 in November and I still love getting steel Jams going.I enjoy it and my Beautiful Wife Anna has been a big help and she does a great job of helping me with running them.

Sam, glad to see you are active and ready to start another Steel Guitar Jam in North Carolina. If anyone can get it done it'll be you and Anna. I enjoyed playing at your first Greenville, TN Jam a while back. I don't know of anyone who loves to play anymore than you Sam. Good luck and let us know how you're doing getting it organized. If you all are ever down my way, stop by for a spell.

Well I have four so far that will be at the Jam and one of them also plays Bass and is willing to play bass for us.He said he is not a good Steel player but I want him to bring his Steel so some one can show him a few things on the Steel. I will do my best to help others. This is a small Jam with about 8 to 10 Steel Players. It is for guys that want to learn and also guys that are good players.I'm sure not a good player by all means but I try to do the best I can.I wanted to get the MASGA to have a Jam in this area but they want $800.00 for the American Legion Hall in our area. That to me is real crazy it is a new hall and they want some one to pay for it right away. The community Hall that I have in mind will only hold 40 people and maybe squeeze 50 in there. As you can see I changed the Date as I do not want to interfere with the MASGA.It is now September 25TH and if I have to change the date again i can do that as I do not want to interfere with any othe Steel Guitar Jams or Shows.Come on guys lets get it going.

Hi Sam. I live in Wilmington so I would be interested in coming up. I am very "green" on steel but can play decent lead and rhythm guitar if needed. Please keep me posted.

Best wishes, Walter

Sam, I can understand your relutance getting involved again in an Association. I'm a preacher and I've pastored 8 different churches, and you're so right...it's hard to keep everybody happy. I'm 76 years old and chaplain of our Ozark Steel Guitar Association here in Branson, MO. My wife and I are co-hosts on steelradio.com once a month with a 2 hour gospel program. It's from 2-4 p.m. central standard time, the 2nd Sunday of every month. There's steel guitar music on every song! It sounds like you know all the ins and outs of your endeavor. I really don't have advice to give, because Im sure you know much more about it than I do. We've had jams here at our house for several years. Sometimes we have had 8 or 9 steels. I'm sure you would recognize some of the names we've had. Rob Parker, Hal Rugg, John Hughey, Buck Grantham, Terry Bethel, Tyler Hall, Dave Musgrave, Mike McGee, Fred Justice and the list goes on!!! I'm no way in their league, but you can promise a good meal and get almost anyone you want! Very Happy Very Happy The steel guitar is a lot of fun and it's made friends out of a lot of people! I haven't heard of any trumpet jams, or trombone jams, you know what I mean. Those are beautiful instruments, but they can't hold a candle to the steel guitar. Keep up the good work! You can bet on it, "if we lived closer, we'd be at your jam!'

Thank You Jeremiah for your support. I have been around doing these Steel Jams and Shows for a while now.I enjoy doing it and have met a lot of great friends.I only wish I could play the Steel as good as I do running these Steel Jams and Shows.I have met John Hughey,Rob Parker, and Terry Bethel.I met Terry at the Washington County Fair in Rhode Island and I have a picture of him and myself and his Autograph. This Steel Jam is going to be a test to see what we get for people to come and listen to us play steel Guitar. If we can't get enought people to come in a listen and pay $5.00 to help pay for the Hall them we will have to find a place we can all Jam together and have a lot of fun.I have 8 to 10 Steel Pickers already and we will see what we come up with for a total of Steel pickers.

Hi Sam, depending on the actual date, maybe I'll take a ride up, FV is about 2.5 hours from me. I am not sure I will drag the Steel, maybe, but I would offer, like Jerry Hayes , to play Telecaster behind the Steel players. If anything the visit would be more to say hi to players I have not seen in a long time...

It's a good thing you are doing..

Hi guys I will be changing the date to one that I can get everyone to come to.The hall will be changed as I found a nice place we can have for free. The Golden Pawn on Route 42 and 70 in Clayton which will be easy to fine. WE go there every Wed. night to see Blue Grass and Country mixed. There is room for about 12 to 15 Steel Players.George who runs the Jams Wed. Nights asked his son who owns the Pawn Shop said it would be OK for any Saturday from 12;00 Noon til 6;00PM.They are nice people and George's son will still be able to do business with us Jamming.I think this will be a great place and I thank George and his son.George plays the Stand up Bass,Mandolin, and is learning to play Steel.Anna & I will run this like we did in Tennessee and Rhode Island. The one thing I ask is Please do not play your steel when someone else is playing. We will do a Round Robin with one song and everyone gets to play that song. Then we will go around to each player and play 3 Songs each and if we have more time we will do another song and so on.We will have a great time and there may be a few people come in and listen to us all.Jerry Hayes and Tony Prior said they will play steel and Lead and George and Dale Lee from Raleigh will play some bass and Steel.Maybe we can get a Drummer and have everyone play with a band. I thing Dan Griffen knows a drummer that might come and play with us.If that works out we will have a great time.Who knows we might be able to stay longer.Counting myself we have 8 Steel players coming.Come on guys we can use a few more.

Hi Guys well I found out that it is going to be hard to find everyone to come. Clyde Has a gig and I was going to change the date but he said for me not to try to keep up with his Gigs as he has a lot of them so I will keep the original Date and that is September 25 and this is the final Date.I guess it is win a few and loss a few.Sorry it is hard to get everyone as they have gigs and they get payed for them.I can understand that.See you all at the Golden Pawn in Clayton September 25TH.

Sam, I won't be able to make it after all. I just talked to Garland Abbott on the phone and we're booked for the dinner theater thing that weekend at Onley Place in North Carolina. I'd have loved to made it there. Best wishes on your endeavor and I hope you pack the place.......Take care....JH in Va.
