Marvin has been gone ten years and his steel is for sale(in Pedal Steel section). Several have chimed in with rememberances of Marvin. He was a real hero and friend to me. The first guy I heard at the local level that I thought really had the sound of the big boys. When he got that LeGrande III that is for sale, he came down to a jam that Billy Knowles, Jack Jones and I hosted.
During his years with the Country Gentlemen (not the bluegrass group), he teamed with the great Jimmmy Saunders in a steel and guitar duo that would scare anybody to death. Later he was in a great group called Cannonball Express and Billy Knowles and I would have to made periodic pilgrimages to Kernersville, N. C. to get our "Marvin Hudson fix".
I recall he played thru a Sho Bud and a Fender twin and his sound was huge.
I think of him often and miss his dry sense of humor and "Precious Pup" chuckle. _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |

I never got the chance to meet Marvin. Wish I had.
I heard him play many times and still have an LP on which he played steel on all cuts. His steel playing was the primary reason I purchased the LP. He was a super player even before the all pull changer. |

I met Marvin in Burlington when he was playing an outside gig with Cannonball. Wow, I was blown away! A Big Big sound is right. He's gone home way too early.

His playing ability spoke for itself. He was a very good friend and we had many great conversations. He was a blast to be around and very interesting to talk too. I miss him very much and would have loved to have had more time. Extremely intelligent! |
