dickens told the story to eddie stubbs one night several years back about those skull caps the band is wearin' in that shot. i can't remember the details but buddy instigated it and i think had his head shaved. but, thats how rumors get started!

That story is in the BF box set; when Buddy joined Dickens' band he had a Mohawk hair cut. Dickens didn't think too much about it and said if any of the boys in the band ever want to get fired just go ahead and cut a Mohawk. So they're playing a stint in Atlantic City at a casino ( I think ) and after one of the shows Okie Jones got a genious idea that all the guitar players in the band would cut a Mohawk, so they did. Next morning the idea didn't seem so great anymore so they showed up at Dickens' hotel room. Instead of firing them all, he decided to just make a joke out of it and ordered them to shave it all off, got those coon skin hats and sorta named them the three idiots. The box set has a couple of more pics of that show and in one of them the trio is standing up, hats off and bowing their bald heads at the audience  |
