There will be a benefit concert on May 23rd. Here is an announcement from NCAL:-
Dear NCAL members:
On February 11, 2010 our dear friend Taku Sakashta was taken from us by a brutal and senseless act of cruelty. Taku’s family and friends have already begun the difficult task of planning the future. A benefit concert is being held to help support Taku's widow. See the information below and on the attached flyer.
BENEFIT INFO:
“An Intimate Evening For Taku” will take place at the Spreckels Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park on Sunday, May 23 at 4-9pm. Tickets are $55 general admission and $100 for special reserved seats. Ticket purchases can be made by phone (707-588-3400) or at the Spreckels Box Office.

This special evening will feature the exceptional talents of: Robben Ford, and Tuck & Patti, with a special appearance by music legend Boz Scaggs. Local favorites, The Volker Strifler Band and The Black Market Blues Band will get the ball rolling. Bill Ham, famous for his iconic Fillmore West light shows, will be supplying visual entertainment for an extra treat!
All of us who were lucky enough to know and work with Taku hope that you’ll join us for what will surely be an outstanding celebration of his life.

In a community wide effort to further support Taku’s widow, a silent auction of many wonderful goods and services will be held on the day of the benefit. Donations of saleable goods and services are gratefully accepted. A trust fund has been set up for those interested in sending monetary donations.

As the date of the benefit concert, May 23, grows close, the event organizer, Ross Shafer, has put out the following announcement:
Benefit Tickets: Ticket sales for the Sakashta Benefit took off like a bat out of hell at first and have now slowed down a bit. As of last Tuesday there were still about 220 tickets left. We want to sell out this special event so if you’ve been sitting on the fence about attending…jump off, get to your phone, dial up the Spreckels box office (707 588 3400) and get in on the action! Please see the pdf attached for concert details. This should be an outstanding concert!
Auction items needed!: The benefit concert for Taku Sakashta’s widow is a little over a week away. We’ve got quite a few nice silent auction items coming in from all sorts of directions. Unfortunately, thus far we’ve received very little from the guitar building community itself. All of us who’ve been working on this benefit and the associated silent auction would love to see more of Taku’s peers in the luthier community represented on the auction tables. These items will be on sale at the concert.
If you can donate wood, tools, interesting guitar tidbits, anything someone might be willing to plunk down money for we'd appreciate it.. With the concert and auction coming so quickly (ay 23rd), we’ve got a major time crunch, hence the “Call to Action!” .
We will be accepting auction donations up to and including the day of the benefit. However, we cannot guarantee that we’ll be able to get your name on the thank you page of the program unless we have a firm commitment by Friday May 14. Along with your commitment to donate, we also need an absolute promise that the goods will be shipped immediately so they can arrive in time for the benefit. If you do donate something, please include a brochure or other promotional material from your company so we can have that on the table with your donated item,

It won't bring Taku back, but to bring conclusion to this story, those following the case will be satisfied to know that on September 28th Joshua Rhea Begley was convicted of Taku's murder, and has been sentenced to life without parole.

I never bought one of his guitars (always other monetary priorities) but I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple times and he struck me as a really nice fellow and a gentleman.
This murder really shook up the local music community in Sonoma County, as well as the community at large.
