Was browsing in the guitar store today, playing my Derby through a variety of amps, vintage Twins and Super Reverbs and some boutique stuff. The guy working told me I should try the Austin. To my suprise it was the best sounding amp I played and $300 to boot. Anyone know much about these? Has two 12's and a horn. Two channels, one marked acoustic and one marked electric, that I really could'nt tell the difference between. Had a really nice warm tone, but the 12's seemed to give it more of punch than the Vegas I usually play through. |

I aad an Ausin and I'm sorry I sold it. Way ahead of it's time for an acoustic amp and the steel sounded nice. Probably could have instatalled a toggle switch to shut off the horn when nusing the steel. |

I used to own the Austin 400, but didn't play steel through it. The tweeter horn works in the acoustic guitar channel only. Powerful amplifier. |

I remember the Peavey Austin coming into the U.K. I would say it was around 1984 /85, and i think it was part of the Peavey 400 series range, which included, the 'nashville 400' 'session 400' 'vegas' and the 1x12 bw loaded 'LA400' a great guitar amp, _________________ There are no strangers, only friends you have yet to meet |

I saw a used Austin in a local shop recently. I already have the Reno 400 so I didn't grab it.
I should have checked it out.
If anyone is interested it's at Cetuar Guitar on Sandy Blvd. |
