It's a great change! First heard about it from Jay Dee, and he said that Maurice Anderson gave him the idea.
Open, it's a great Dmin9 and close voiced FMaj7. It's also great to be able to play a fat straight F major chord in that range, omitting the Maj7 (string 6)!
I myself just lower the G to F without the C to D raise, because I have it on a vertical KL (that's doing double duty with the E9 neck). When I use it in conjunction with pedal 5, I get the D note in the bottom and it overrides the half step G to F#. This is a useful way to go from a II7 to a IImin7! |

I have it on RKR, and then the same as Rick. If you can lower your A's a half step elsewhere (mine is LKL), P5+P6 plus A's down a half plus this gives you a whole new set of 6th chords, up two whole steps. 12th fret = C6th, 11th fret = G6th. Let the knee off, and the G -> F# makes a 7th chord. |

i have that change G to F on LKL
it's quite handy w: P6 to get a root in the middle - a good blues or rock power chord
add the As to Ab & you get the minor chord
otherwise i use the G to F in conjunktion w: the A to Bb lever too (7th chord) when doin runs or just messin' w: the chord |

I'm pretty sure you can, unless you have any other unusual pulls on those strings. |

Paul, it is a tough change but can be done. I had it on one of my MSA's in the past. You will have to have maximum travel on every part to do it. It's tougher the smaller the string gauges.

Paul,
If you run into trouble, be
sure to place the pull rod
through the changer hole
farthest away from the
changer axle.
This minimizes the tension
realized by the lowering
scissor from the return spring.
Also, if need be, use a string
that has a larger diameter 'core'
string.
Different brands of the same
size wound string may use
different diameter cores.
