Is there a source for the plastic or nylon spacers that go between the nylon tuning nuts and the changer fingers. I've seen them used on Zums and the Lagrange, probably others.(two different sizes) Probably not something you would normally replace unless you lost them or were building or doing a rebuild. Need a bunch. All help appreciated.

I would think you could just drill out some tuning nuts and cut them to length.

Thanks Erv... Hadn't thought of that.

Stu, I do live near an Ace, I'll go by there in a few. Already checked at Lowes, they didn't have anything I thought would work.

Appreciate the input...

Pastor Bruce,
I did find some at Lowes. A Hillman part#, 1" long but they cut easily with a razor knife. Still need a few, but I'm on my way. Thank you...

I know it's a little late for this one, but; ACE HARDWARE also sells them. Even metal ones!

I think Erv has a neat idea here.
Myself, I buy little 1" long and round hollow spacers made out of aluminum. With the way my changer is placed, I use a 1" hex tuner nut and a half of that alum spacer behind it. Works great.

I bought a bunch of the nylon/plastic ones at Ace also. They come in sizes from 1/8" long up to 1" or longer in 1/8" increments. Fit screw sizes 6, 8, 10 and up. No cutting necessary. I used them on Sierra, Williams, Mullen and Zum guitars. Perfect replacement parts and the ends don't mushroom out easily like the alum spacers sometimes do.

Jerry, I will keep an eye out for the plastic ones. Although my aluminum spacers don't show signs of mushrooming, what's good enough for Zum etc should be good enough for anybody.

Bent, Mullen and Derby at least, use alum spacers between the tuning nut and the finger. I don't think mushrooming is a problem with them. I have, however, seen over time that the end next to the finger distorts as to even hang on the pull rod....but only a few times over 30 years.

The quality of the nylon parts will vary also, [density...wall thickness, etc.], as well as that of certain alum ones.

I might have possibly overstated the condition....it was just offered as an observation. Feel free to dismiss the comment as the exception v. the rule.

ACE Hardware had exactly what I was looking for. My thanks to you all.

Bent, as Jerry stated, mine had mushroomed and were "Dragging" on the rods. Tuning stability was beginning to be an issue. Went to a jam this weekend and all of the steels I looked at, had nylon spacers. Zum, Emmons, etc. I don't know, maybe aluminum for tone, but I'll take tuning stability. If metal is preferred, stainless might be better. Just an idea... I'm not a builder though, just a tinkerer.

To insure the integrety of the spacer-ends, it's important that all pull-rods go through the hole in the changer at a 90° angle. –––I–==
