This is a week long instrument building experience that is centered around the weissenborn-style instrument. You will work along side me to build your own weiss. Even though this course is centered around the weissenborn instrument, the techniques covered during this week can also be applied to any acoustic instrument construction. Things such as; choosing the right pieces of wood, bracing, tap tuning, side bending, rosettes/bindings and basic finishing techniques are all integral parts of any acoustic instrument construction. I’ve built over 150 weissenborns and I’m excited to be able to teach people this wonderful craft.

I'm also thinking of offering this class in 2 long weekend sessions. This may work better for most folks especially ones that are more local. My schedule is very flexible so let me know what time frames you have in Sept/Oct/Nov time period and I'll make it work. I have one student ready to go and his times are flexible as well. I'd like to keep the size down to 2-3 people.

Lodging is included in the price and Spouses are welcome.

This will be an intense week of learning and gratifying work. You will be doing most of the work, I’ll be building one right along side. So I’ll be able to demonstrate the upcoming task. I will use the main (dangerous tools) such as the big bandsaw, the planer and the thickness sander. I like to tell students that there is no experience required and this is true for the most part. Of course the more experience the better. However, if you can hold and use a chisel and use sandpaper then I think you’ll be fine.

Please check out the website for more info on prices and lodging.

That's a great idea, Rance. I hope you get a good response. The price is very reasonable considering you get your own guitar at the end of the workshop!

That is a very cool idea! Be sure to post that over on Woody Mann's forum and any of the other forums.

Hey Rance, welcome to the forum. It's awesome that you're offering a building workshop and I hope it's something that continues because I would love to do it sometime. My walnut/spruce needs a brother Smile

What's interesting is that I'll be in your neighborhood in a few weeks but it's for a family vacation so a workshop won't be part of the plan this time... but, maybe next time I can work it in.

Hey guys, thanks for the great words. I think it will be a lot of fun and a lot of work. The sense of accomplishment/excitement that you get when you sit down and pluck the strings on something you built is priceless. I remember that feeling very well from my first guitar over 10 years ago.
