When I first started to play pedal steel guitar around 1969, I was given a tape recording of a version of Proud Mary by a guy called Anthony Armstrong Jones. The band that I was playing in at the time wanted me to learn the steel break which incorporated a key change. It sounded very much like Lloyd Green playing it, but because I never got hold of the album to see the credits I was unsure of who the steel player was.
The solo was beyond my capabilities at that time, but since then I was able to work out how it was played. It was an incredible solo. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. I've got a tape of Conway doing Proud Mary in the late 60's when Anthony Armstrong was working w/CT. Tape has Hughey playing on the song. Lloyd could have easily done it also w/AAJ. |

"Proud Mary" was the title of the first lp Jones put out on Chart Records in 1969. Lloyd Green was indeed the steel player on it and also subsequent lp's put out by Jones on that label. _________________ Rebel |
