Someone sent me these videos from a show I did with Lucky Tubb back in July. The sound and visual quality is pretty bad and the fact that I was just sitting in for the night not knowing his music didn't help, but still some of it is OK. I really like my Fender T-8 Custom driving my Music Man amp the way it does here.
Again, I'm just listening to the keys and chord changes the band plays the tunes. I don't mind playing like this--it keeps me on my toes and I've been preparing for those scenarios my whole career. I'd rather rely on my ears in some cases than a chart.

I can't really comment on that since I don't really know him, but in the 2 or 3 times I've met him he was OK to me. He did lament to me that he has a checkered reputation, and he was sad about it. Still, until he proves me otherwise, I'll be happy to play with him when he comes to NY.

I have played with lucky many times, I have to admit its a little wild at times but he does a great job and no pressure at all from him or natilie. and the best part of all its always cash and you will always get paid.

I played six string for Lucky for a couple of years and toured with him and the Modern Day Troubadours. I consider Lucky a friend even though his reputation has outran him. Out of all the bands I've picked or steeled for Lucky's brand of country is right up my alley. We had some good and bad times, but all of our experiences were memorable. He never stiffed me on my paycheck and always paid me well. I'm busy with my western swing group JWW And The Prospectors or I'd probably still be playing for him. Cheers from ATown.

I think I understand that full well, Herb!
Doing a gig or 2 with him and the band gave me a chance to play the kind of music I never get a chance to play (as you can tell by my crappy playing) but which I really enjoy once in a while.

Something tells me you enjoy it more than that! Especially on the first one -- I thought you nailed it, stylistically speaking.
I also really liked your tone. What was your gear (& the tuning on that neck) for that gig?

I played with guys like that back in the early 50s, maybe even worse  The music was OK if ya survived. |
