Another VZ Custom Guitar sold thanks to the Steel Guitar Forum.
$525 or make an offer. Includes hard shell Tweed case.
I built this custom Tele in my shop in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The body is solid Alder. It is finished in dark red nitrocellulose lacquer covered by several layers of clear nitro.
The rock maple 22-fret neck is from a Tradition Guitars JR Series Tele copy. I bought several of these necks from Tradition. The neck is a modified āCā shape. The back is slightly flattened, but not as flat as a āDā shape neck. This neck is very comfortable to play. The frets are jumbo. I have cut and installed a bone nut.
The bridge pickup and the neck pickup are new rail humbuckers from GFS. These are hot pickups. Both are coil tapped. The neck humbucker becomes a pseudo single-coil when the volume knob is pulled up. The coil tap on the bridge pickup is activated by pulling up the tone knob. The middle pickup is a used middle pickup from a Fender Strat.
The bridge is a six saddle model. The electronics consist of a Fender 5-way pickup selector switch, 2 500K push-pull pots, an orange drop cap and a Switchcraft output jack in an Electrosocket plate. The pickup selection is pretty standard for a three pickup guitar. Position #1= bridge; Position #2= bridge and neck; position #3=middle; Position #4=middle and neck; Position #5=neck. Coil tapping add four more sonic possibilities to the standard five.
Included with this guitar is a hard shell Tweed case.
I have priced this guitar somewhat lower than normal because of a small finish flaw in the guitar top. (See picture). There is a pin head size depression where the finish shrunk over a small knot. Since the flaw is so small I decided to discount the price instead of spending more time fixing it.
Every guitar I build is one of a kind, with a unique look and sound. I usually turn out one of two VZ Custom guitars a month. I look for good deals on top quality new and used parts for my guitars. This guitar is as good as or better than any $1,200+ cookie-cutter factory-built guitar. Any guitar is only as good as its setup. I spend a lot of time setting up VZ Customs for optimal playability. I set the action as low as possible without encountering fret buzz. I set the neck for minimal relief. The nut slots are cut for optimal distance between the bottom of each fret and the first fret. I always check for high frets and level if necessary. I check fret ends for smoothness. The final step in the set up is to check the intonation of each string and adjust where necessary.
If you have any questions about this guitar, please ask. If you want a more detailed picture of anything, I will try to oblige. This guitar can be purchased on Ebay http://tinyurl.com/2clfyjk _________________ Bud Veazey

Is the pick guard laminate or the "real" 3 ply construction? |
