I picked up an old rusted Diane today and sure enough the first thing that happened when I got home was the tuning keys crumbed.

I remember someone posting a place that carried replacement keys for vintage guitars, but neglected to bookmark it. The Diane has some exceptionally long posts through the headstock and a touch different spacing than the cheap replacements seen at Sam Ash.

Anyone know where I can order direct replacements or at least something I can easily modify to fit?

Hi Paul, sounds like the tuner buttons are fallin apart which happens to a lot of older lap steel guitars. Here's a link to some tuner buttons. Click Here. And this is a link to some info on replacing the buttons yourself. It's a fairly easy task if you take your time with it. Click Here.
