Would LOVE any feedback.
Just starting out & wanted to get a decent unit.
I Hope this is a good one. I've never heard any neg about an Emmons.
Here's the ad for what I just purchased for $700:
VINTAGE 70'S EMMONS S-10 CUSTOM MADE 1 LEVER 3 PEDAL STEEL GUITAR + OHSC .
THIS PEDAL STEEL IS IN EXTREMLY NICE MECHANICAL AS WELL AS COSMETIC CONDITION. ITS AN EMMONS S-10 CUSTOM MADE 1 LEVER 3 PUSH PULL SYSTEM PEDAL STEEL GUITAR + OHSC. In good clean condition, JUST A COUPLE SMALL SMALL SURFACE SCRATCHES.. NO FINISH WEAR ..WAS PURCHASED AT AN ESTATE.. THE OWNER WAS DECEASED AND WAS USING IT RIGHT UP TO HIS DEATH.. IT WAS KEPT IN NICE SHAPE... IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT PEDAL STEELS YOU WILL KNOW THAT THESE CAN ONLY BE PURCHASED FROM THE FACTORY.. ALL ARE CUSTOM MADE TO SPEC.. WITH OTHER ADDED FEATURES AT A PREMIUM COST .. THIS WAS A COMMON SET UP BACK IN THE EARLY 70'S .. 10 STRING, 3 PEDAL AND 1 LEVER ( LEVER NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED AND CALIBRATED.. Sounds like a "student" model to me.
Nonthing wrong with that as they are fine sounding guitars on which a whole lot of music can be played.

Sounds like an Emmons student model. it should sound pretty good. get a volume pedal, and an amp. and start playing. Dont waste your time looking at effects, or magic tricks to make you sound like Buddy Emmons. Practice, Practice. and when your fingers start to bleed. go listen to good steel players... haha! but back to topic, you should have a good sounding guitar to learn on.

Hard to tell what it is. "Cast frame"? Adjustable legs were not standard on a student Emmons.

That is the rods that move the changer (changing pitch of the strings.) You probably have:
6 pull rods that raise pitch (2 on each pedal)
and
2 push rods that lower pitch (on the knee lever) |

Thanx again.
The pics of this unit (eBay) show it to be very clean.
It's not a lacquered wood look. More like a cheaper, faux wood look. Maybe some kinda plastic covering. Seems like a more pro guitar would look a bit more upscale. No problem for me. I just wanna enjoy it. I'm a gigging drummer. lol.
Is it likely that I could add more knee levers to this if I chose to at some point? |

I saw that auction. It is a typical Emmons student model with that vinyl covering. Decent starter guitar. I'm not sure about adding levers, but someone here will know.
Good Luck with your progress. Find some other steel players, maybe a steel club or organization in your neck of the woods. That'll be valuable education for you. |

Jerry's right. Unless they ordered it with adjustable legs, it's probably a GS-10. I would buy it, those are really nice. If it is an S-10 all the better.

It appears that it is a student model and has had the legs changed out to adjustable legs which is a very good thing. The adjustable legs uses the same threads as was on the one piece legs. I have added knee levers to the Emmons student guitar. The lever addition is same as on any Emmons push pull.

I know I'll wanna add at least one more knee lever, at some point.
I'm in SoCal, so I'm close to Blackie Taylor's shop.
I think I'll have him give 'er the once over for me & find out what it'll cost for add on levers, while I'm down there seein' him.
i'm a severe newby, although this ain't my first steel.
I had bought an OLD Sho-Bud proto-type a few years back.
It was a double-10 with several knee levers & 8 pedals, which was all just more than I was ready for. I had a fellow interested in buying it, since I had made up my mind to "simple down" a bit. Long story short, the guy wound up ripping off my steel.
I'm just now gettin' back around to diggin' back in.
