I have followed most of the Forum post regarding installation of this pick up.
Has any one successfully installed Alumitones in any Emmons LeGrande series guitars?
It appears that major surgery either on the pick up or the changer forward blocks will be required.
If not how did you overcome the shallow pick up slot?

Danny, Thanks for pointing out my problem and the link. The solution was as I had expected it to be. I was concerned about milling 1/8" off the changer arms and any inpact it might have on sustain. The experience Dan Gaylish has answered that question.
Modifying the LeGrand II appears to be much simpler than the original LeGrande as the changer mounting and arms are one piece.
Thanks again. Best regards, Jay Thompson |

You're welcome. I'm glad to help.
I remembered reading a thread about this problem and when I did a forum search for Alumatone and Emmons, some threads came up but I still couldn't find it,
I went to Google and pasted Alumatone and it said... did you mean to search for Alumitone?
That's when I saw your problem. Don't feel bad, you weren't the first person that has done exactly the same thing.
Now go get some Tonealigners. |

Danny,
I now have Tonealigners in the LeGrande and TrueTones in the LeGrande II. I have four Alumitones with mounting plates that really need to be in these guitars. Someday I will have the courage to disassemble the LeGrande which has 14 hole belcranks making it much more difficult. Again, thanks for the help.

are these aloomytunes really worth the hassle?
i've always found stock emmons pickups to be as good a sound as anything, and they're already installed.?! |

Chris,
My '84 LeGrande came with Emmons single coils. Talk about hum. changed to BL 710's found .011 through .014' to be weak. Installed Wallace TrueTones, great sound with hum. Installed ToneAligners they work well except are often too mellow. I expect the Alumitones will relieve the problems mentioned above and following. The LeGrande II came with Emmons 108N's. A little dark for my taste, replaced them with TrueTones, again, great sound with hum. Going to replace all four pick ups with Alumitones. Brightness with little or no hum. An added plus, they will look really sharp on my all black Emmons guitars.
