Can you determine the success of a song by the quantity of covers by other non-professional performers? I was looking for "Only Prettier" and found several covers by other performers, I guess most of them unknown. They perform well most of the time. _________________ Sherman L. Willden
It is easy to play the steel guitar. Playing so that the audience finds it pleasing is the difficult act. |

Interesting you should mention that Sherman. I've always liked the Bob Dylan song "My Back Pages". I never understood the lyrics but liked the chord changes and melody. Heard a fairly cool version of it on the radio this morning... must have been from some reunion show as I could pick out Bob Dylan's voice as well as Neil Young, Tom Petty, and Eric Clapton and definitely heard Clapton's guitar. I've also got separate recordings of it by Carl Verheyen (guitar monster), Eric Johnson (guitar monster), Steve Earle, the Hollies, and the Byrds which got me to thinking how many other folks have recorded it. From the original very simple acoustic guitar "folkie" Dylan version its interesting the number of hot guitarists (Clapton, Verheyen, Johnson) that have recorded it. |
