Hi Guys,
Early next year I am thinking about upgrading from my S10 to a D10. I'm not sure if I will go double neck or arm rest yet but I'm not too worried about that detail right now.
I started 5 years ago but gave up when I found out learning the pedal steel while you work full time and go to school full time in your 30's just isn't possible =) Now i've been playing 5 days a week 2 - 3 hours a day for the past few months and it's really coming together. I haven't even picked up my 6 string since I brought the steel out =)
I know this post will be opening a can of worms but I wanted to hear what you guys had to say.
1. First question is setup: Currently I am playing this old S10 BMI that I purchased off ebay I think from a forum member. My question is can you look at my copedent and tell me the advantages to my setup and/or recommend a setup (and reasons why) for when I upgrade? I'm pretty comfortable with mine I just want to know if there is something better/easier out there that I am missing =) For instance having the F and E levers on one side instead of split like I have them now.
2. I've been looking at Carter, Sho Pro and Jacksons. Any opinions on these or any suggestions on other manufacturers I should look into. I am interested in a new instrument this time around. My budget will be $5000 and I would like not to go over if possible and I would prefer to stay under. I've been leaning towards the Show Pros because they are so beautiful but the Carters are light and I have back problems.
I think I'll leave it at that for now because I am sure a million questions will come up as the thread progresses.
Any help and/or opinions will be very much appreciated. Feel free to email me as well. Especially if you have something negative to say about a steel manufacturer I don't want to give anybody a bum rap because somebody is unhappy with them =)

The only advantage to the way you have them now (other than your habits which can be hard to break) is that you can slide smoothly between raised Es and lowered Es.
The disadvantage is that you can't use some levers when the Es are raised or lowered. |
