what do you guys used for a small room for P.A. system
speakers,mixers, etc. i trying to put together a small
system for 50 to 100 people . would like some input

For a small venue, I use an older Peavey 7 channel powered board with two SP 2 mains and 2 wedge monitors. Works really well for me.....

Mackie 8 channel mixer
JBL mains with 15"
JBL JRX 100 Monitors
SM-58 microphones
The Monitors are really good and to me sound better than the mains.
These days I will use just the monitors, back a little so we can hear them and it makes a super compact sys. that has a very pro sound.

My first system was a Mackie powered mixer and Mackie C300 speakers.
When I upgraded the system I went to an Allen & Heath 16 channel board, Yorkville NX550 powered main speakers, and ART RCF-10 powered monitors with a dbx Driverack 260 speaker processor.
The two significant changes between systems were: 1) powered speakers with separate amps for woofers and tweeters (bi-amped), which really cleaned up the sound; and 2) the Driverack, which provides feedback suppression, EQ to flatten the speaker response, etc. |

Add mics, cables and stands and you have a bullet-proof, compact, first-class PA rig for up to 300 people, provided you don't try to put the drums through it |

Jbl Cabarets(small ones with 2 8" speakrs (4612b)and butt cheek horn, any decent head PV XR whatever, or new lightweight Yamaha head. We either use 2 12" monitors or Hot Spots.. Very lightweight, loud enough for any gig that doesn't mike the drums.JP

It's the best PA money I have ever spent. I have several other small systems Carvin, Soundcraft, Mackie
but the best sound and ease of setup is the Roland.

Can't beat a SHURE VOCALMASTER,
But seriously, There are a lot of small enclosures and powered mixers on the market. I'd stay away from the really inexpensive ones like NADY or even Behrenger.
Yamaha, Mackey, Peavey, they all make something like that. But I suspect you, like the rest of us would do, will cobble something together with whatever is available. |
