It's time to order some tubes for my VHT 2/90/2 power amp. I need to get at least 2 for the second channel. Right now I have a set of Svetlana 6550's in the A channel and that's all I've been using since I've had the amp. I'd like to try something diiferent for comparison.

What are the characteristic differences between 6550 and KT-88's?

Would any specific brands be better for steel? Getting a well pronounced low end is my main concern.

I'd appreciate any help or input on the subject, thanks.

Brett

I used to like to run KT-88s in my Marshall's.
They have more head room and sounded better to me for a clean sound.
They also seem to be more durable than tube's that are pushed to break up...
6550's are close to 6L6s and for me it would be an upgrade to KT-88s...I like em
I have a set up with a world 1.2 w/ Revelation pre. w/ no complaints.
Since I got the Ken Fox amp w/ 4-10s and 30 watts none of the other amps have been out of the closet.

Thanks, Ken/ Folks really have mo idea yet how great that amps sounds. I want to build a second run of those this year.

I still have serial #0001, the tweed piggy back. I love playing steel or guitar thru it!
