Went to engage F lever on my Sho-Bud and POP!, thought I broke a rod but upon closer examination saw that the weld on the cross shaft had broken loose. What's the best way to fix it guys without havin to take it to be spot welded? Thought about JB weld. Will it work on aluminum?

Andy , I've worked in Mfg. ( welding and machining ) for 30 yrs. Don't try JB Weld . It won't last . Almost anyone with a MIG or TIG welder can repair this in less than 5 min. If there's not a weld shop close to you try a auto body shop . They might do it for you . Most of them have a MIG welder .....Ron

Ronald, I've received emails from several others suggesting not to use JB Weld as it probably won't hold for long, then it'll be a hassle to remove it so I'll probably try and find a welding shop or body shop near by to spot weld it for me.

Bob, I appreciate your offer too. Oh well, I guess it's back to non pedal lap steel for a few days. Smile

I think your best bet is to remove the assembly from your guitar and take it to a local welder to MIG or TIG weld it. My limited experience with spot welding is, that it is mostly used to weld pieces of sheet metal together, and would not work on the parts you have. Even if it can, you still have to remove the parts, as the welding machine wouldn't be able to get into that tight of a spot. And, I don't think any welder in his right mind would do the welding with the parts still mounted to the guitar. Too much of a possibility of damaging the wood from the heat generated.
