Yes,but touch up by ear and also adjust the bridge for what ever strings intonation I have on the guitar.(rear bridge slids about 1/8") This is not my normal string setup. Most times I use 3 16's or 17's for E,C,A.

You can hear that setup here, The tone is a little fatter.

Somewhere, way back in the gray, cobweb infested recesses of my cranium......

I have this nagging.........that at one time or another YOU did some commercial recording, possibly with another steel guitar artist.

Tell me, please, has my mind failed me completely?
THANK YOU.

Nice pickin' Smile

Vernon, your Ric sure sounds great! What model is that? I also wonder what amp you're running it through?

You sure have a sweet Hawaiian tone.

Danny,
Thanks.
I allways thought it was a D-8?.
But some say its a D-16??. I bought it in 1950.Its number 18 of that model.
I am using a Revelation Pre-Amp into Lexicons into a Tascam Mixer for recording. No Amp.

When I hear you play Vernon, it just puts me in a special place. One sometimes thinks, "Was it really that good back then, or is my memory just being selective?" Yes, it was that good and you've still got it.

Very nice playing Vernon. Loved it.

And yes, it is called a D-16. I started a thread on that very subject when the same model as you are playing was up on ebay. The guy called it a D-16 and quoted from the History of Ric book. Confirmed in the thread as correct by other forum members.

Nice comments from a super picker as you. Don't know how much longer I am going to be able to play, getting shaky and on oxygen 24/7 (Pulmonary Fibrosis).Going to Medical University Of SC tomorrow for bunch of test (7 hrs). They have a new study and hope I can get in it.They don't want to mess with you at age of 80 and I'll be 80 in Nov.
So wish me luck.

Vern,
Your tone in the Rickenbacker.wmv video is fantastic. Thank you for posting it.

Would you mind listing the complete set of C6 string gauges that you used on that video?

What tuning do you currently use on the other neck?

Mitch,
What a surprise!!
Yep that's me,Sure would like to have a copy. All my old recordings are gone. We cut that in Airtone studios in Phila in 1953.Curt Hinson, singer,Troy Ferguson, Guitar, Jim Gardner,Bass, Roy Purkey ,Fiddle, Junior Adkins ,Lead Guitar and me with the Rickenbacker.I heard that one sold over 200,000 copies???. Hinson's fan club put it out.
Adkins and I were using the same Fender Deluxe amp with a Altec 630 mike against the speaker.
The good old Days.

Mitch, The strings on the guitar now are the .
J-HR-C6L Herb Remington C6 Low or A6, stainless set
.014, .017, .022w, .024, .030, .034, .042, .046 . I bought from B0b on the forum . I put those on in April to play the guitar at the Augusta Ga. Steel Show,(Never took in out of the case as they had cut my time, so played the Zum).
Tunings on the guitar now are C 6th and E 7th.I change the back neck to A 6th,D 9th etc.
The break on Cotton Picking Baby was the E 7th tuning.

Vernon:

The flip side of Cotton Picking Baby was Your Old Love Is Haunting You Still.

The only other Curt Hinson recordings I know of are Down Deep In My Heart and Let’s See You Smile, both of which were released on Carolina 1001.

I don't have any of the other 3 songs at this time.

I'm assuming you played on all of them.
