Good morning. I was wondering if someone could help me out? I have the Stacy Phillips 2 DVD set, and have been working through it. The other day, I put the DVD in, as I am blind, my intention was to hit enter and let the DVD begin. I have no idea what key I hit, or what exactly I did to make this happen, but somehow, the first song began to play, and then repeated playing over and over. I took advantage of whatever it was I had done to practice along.
My question to you is: how do I make it do it again. Is there some way to play just the songs with no introductions etc, so I can just practice along with each song, or was it just a freak thing? If anyone has a copy of this material, is there a practice section on the DVD I’ve missed?
Thanks. Just in case, for clarification, when I say “first song”, I’m talking about the first song taught in the DVD, “Little Rosewood Casket”, not the song that immediately begins when you put the DVD in the computer. Also, if this would fit better in another section of the form, please feel free to move it to the proper section. |

I just got those DVDs last week. I'm at work right now, but if I recall correctly the main menu includes a selection that does exactly what you said. I think it was just called "Play Songs" or "Play All Songs." Functionally speaking, you need to get to the DVD menu and then make that selection. Are you running the DVDs on a computer or a DVD player?
I'll be out late jamming (on 8-string reso) tonite, but I'd be happy to give you more detail tomorrow when I can sit down with it.

Jana,
Welcome. I don't have those CDs, but they are on Homespun Tapes, so you should be able to contact them to get information on how to reproduce this (i.e. make them repeat as you wish). Good luck!

Did you use your remote control to start the DVD?
( I hope so )
Many of them have a button that is titled 'Repeat A&B'.
Hit it once- let it go.....and then press it again, and it will 'LOOP' that section until you can play it in your sleep.
I hope this is what you did |

Thanks guys. "Play songs"/"play all songs" was exactly what I wanted to know. I'm playing the DVD on my computer with windos media. Because I accedently did it once, this tells me there is, probably, a key command to find this section. My screen reader doesn't recognize anything when the DVD ,pfirst comes up. Can you tell me if, when the option of "play song/play all songs" appears, there is a letter underlined, or out beside it a shortcut key command noted?
It might also be that I hit enter twice, quickly. Thanks again, you guys. You've made my day, not to mention, practice time a lot easier. |

Jana,
I can't get auto-play working on my system, but when I insert the disc and tell it to play, it comes up in the media player at the main disc menu, which includes the following items: Play; Song Menu; and three Chapter menus. I was wrong about a "play all songs" menu item - there is none. But when I click on Song Menu it sits there looping on playing the first song (Little Rosewood Casket), so I suppose that is what you stumbled upon.
My guess is that down arrow followed by Enter is how you got there, but I don't know exactly how you have your accessibility options set up. (My only experience with this sort of thing is via a friend with glaucoma, and he is "only" legally blind and "only" needs to have everything displayed in high contrast - he can still use a mouse.)
While that first tune is looping I still see the list of all the songs on the DVD, which I assume you can select using the down arrow key and then enter. Unfortunately, I haven't found any way to get them to loop on the other tunes, but if I click on one it just starts the DVD from Stacy's introduction to that tune and keeps playing (to the end of the DVD).
So it looks like the first song is the only one you can get to loop, but you can at least get to the other tunes without too many clicks.
I hope that's helpful,
Mark
P.S.: There are no underlined letters (or "hot keys") indicated in any of the menus. _________________ http://www.harmonicappliances.com/ |

Thanks, Mark. Yes, that is very helpful. You also explained something else I stumbled on with the song list. I can arrow down to the song, except the screen reader reads chapter #, hit enter, and the song will play. When the song ends, all I have to do is hit enter again, and it repeats from Stacey's song intro. I think I will try Brad's suggestion of contacting Homespun just to make sure there isn't some way to loop each song. If you are interested, I'll let you know what they tell me.
I've tried making my own practice back up with BIAB. I've created a few that worrk well enough, but I can't seem to get the timing just exactly right in places to match Staceys's version. My suggestion to all that make instructional material: Please include back up practice sections/CDs with your material.
Thanks again for all the help, Mark, and everyone. |
