Thanks to brad sarno I found a mint condition Vibrasonic amp. It sounds really good but it has a 15" Gauss speaker. I'm thinking it'll sound much better with a d 130. Any thoughts out there?

Yes, I believe it will sound way better.

Gauss take a lot of power but I think it makes their tone suffer. They seem like more of a PA loudspeaker than an instrument loudspeaker.

I have an EV15L in my '75 Vibrosonic and it sounds pretty nice, heavy as hell, though.

While stationed in Germany in '62 I bought a new Vibrasonic. It had brown tolex covering and came with a D-130F. That was the best sounding amp I have ever owned. Fellow musician convinced me to get Twin reverb with JBL's so I wouldn't have to lug around an echo box. The D-130 is perfect for that amp, IMO.

Bruce...It may be worthwhile to check out the "Sica neo 15" that Ken Fox is using in his steel amps. They sound great and will reduce the weight of the amp considerably.

Bruce, I have a Peavey Deuce that originally had (2) 12" speakers in it and I had the baffle changed and a 15" BW with the neo magnet installed, and it sounds great. I am sure that any of the suggestions you have here will be the makings of a sweet sounding Vibrasonic. Let us know what you decide on.

Sure turned my head when I heard you playing it at Blues Central in Anchorage, I had to walk up and see what the heck it was, and finally found one of my own a few years later in Dallas. Too bad my JBL didn't last, but still sounds great with the EV.

Bruce, You might look for a K130 JBL, as they handle more power than the D series. Woody Woodel can fix you right up. Smile

Bruce I have had over a dozen sessions with the old D-130 always a great sound, even had Woody recone a couple, and they were so close hard to pick out the recone he does a great job I just come up with a altec 4188 did some research, and it might be the key for an evans I have it sounds great now with the old eclispe but I usually have a JBL in any thing I use evem the nashville 112 and if you play enough c6th I heard you have to crisp your amp up you can use a K-140 JBL I have one just havnt tried it in a steel yet you will come up with something that will hit you right I got so use to a JBL hard to get use to just any speaker, but I think this old altec I found might work if someone can tell me more about it that would help.

Bill, I played through Altec 418B's for a couple years. I loved the string seperation and crispness, but the JBL 130 series was smoother and more balanced to me. The Altec, to me, was more middy with that smaller voice coil, so I went back to JBL 130's--smoother to me.

I also tried the 140's. They are a bass speaker. The bass over-rode the sparkly highs and became harder to stay away from "muddy" tone. I myself have settled on the K130's. I can't hear any difference between the K's and the D's.

I also tried the EV 15L--close but lacks what a K130 gives me. If I had a real loud gig, I'd play the EV's and save my JBL's. Being that loud, EV's bloom and are tough as nails, and you won't hear the difference anyways I play Fender Tube amps. That's just me.

I was wondering if anyone has put a JBL in a Nashville 112? If so how did it sound, and what speaker model works the best?

Well I did the not to do way I put a 8ohm in a 4ohm amp so 1st it cut back the power about 30 watts, but just added more power and the tone and the sound was great. Playing a large venue Duane Dunard was in the back the whole show, and at half time he told me the tone was great , and my amp was putting out all it needed, and I was the only amp not miked, but it came out and seemed to mixed with the group, so just hearing that from Duane told me that combination was working and to me that amp with the JBL sounds great just took it out of one and putting it in the next, and am selling a nice 112 like new.

Thanks for all the good advice. I figured I needed to find a D130/8ohms for that Vibrosonic. if anybody has one they'd like to sell, give me a holler.
