can't get the string to stop slipping. Thought I just needed a new one, but it slips too.
I had to clean the pot because it was getting hard to turn, it turns a lot easier now but the dang string just wants to slip. I cleaned it with alcohol cause that was what I had at the time, gonna get some Blue Stuff out of storage and lube it up and see if that helps any.
I need some stickum or something to put on that shaft to hold that string in place.
Anybody got any tips, other than a new pedal? |

There's a rosin product to improve the grip on picks called Gorilla Snot that would do the trick. It stays tacky indefinitely. Or you could try some adhesive-backed sandpaper.

Tim, something sounds amiss here. I've used EBs for a long time and never had a problem with the string slipping on the collar unless the pot bottomed out. I am now using the older/larger pedal(sorry forgot the model#) I've changed pots and strings several times and like I said... Never a slipping problem. On mine, with the string removed, the pot should turn easily with two fingers, if it turns very hard, maybe the collar that the string rides on is dragging slightly on the pot mount. The other thing might be, the spring is two weak. I have had to cut a loop off of the spring once and reshape it to get the tension correct. One other thing, if it has slipped for a while, I suspect the collar has been polished a bit by the string rubbing on it. A little 700/1000 grit sandpaper action on the collar might help that. Guerrilla snot, maybe... EB replacement strings that I got, came waxed. |

For the 20 years or so I used one I used a bootlace coiled around the spool dallied once around a screw with a half filed off head so it wouldn't hit the pedal. Then I melted a ball on the end of the lace where it went through the rear eye. the front one, I put a knot in it. It stayed tight.
If or when I replace the pot I'm going to find a smaller bootlace.
The set screw just needs replaced with something you can wrap a string around.
That's my fix for it.
Worked for me.

I think I need a new pot, I found some sticky stuff to put on the string then it started hanging on me. It turns fine with fingers, but when the string gets on there it wants to hang up. Gonna order up a new pot and see if that helps. |

Tim...It may be that you do not have a sufficient number of windings around the pulley. I looked at my EB pedal and it appears that the string windings cover the entire pulley (at least 6 or 8 turns). |

Actually I think there are 3 turns but since the string is looped it appears to be 6. There is generally sufficient tension when done correctly to make it very difficult to slip so something else must be amiss. While the directions that come with the string/spring kit are clear it is often more of a challenge to perform then it ls let on- the last coil can be a doozy! |

For restringing the EB pedal, I find it is much easier to remove the two philips screws for the pot mount bracket. This allows you to hook the string without having to fight the spring tension. Once the string is hooked, you pull the pot mount back into place and insert the screws. _________________ Scott Swartz

I use Hair Spray on my nylon pedal string. Works great.
