My all-time favorite JB record. This is the Mercury LP re-issue of JB's early 50s session that was recorded on 78. The classic JB Rickenbacher bakelite-thru-Volutone amp sound in all it's glory. Long out of print and, to the best of my knowledge, unavailable on CD though someone owns the Mercury masters. Let your conscience be your guide.

Have any of you heard JERRY BYRD's 1939 rendition of BEACH at WAIKIKI.......as played live on the Renfro Valley Barn Dance?

He did so with Ernie Lee and was playing it in C#min tuning.

Songs like this can be heard from time to time on the JERRY BYRD FAN CLUB site............

There was a Japanese CD release of “On the Shores of Waikiki” a couple of years ago. It has a great cardboard case that resembles the original in every way except that it is 5” square instead of 12”. It even has a little plastic sleeve protector. Cool They turn up on ebay from time to time.
Ray, I’d like to hear Jerry’s “On the Beach at Waikiki”! It's not on your site yet is it?
I've got the tab but have never heard him play it. There is a lot of single string work with hammer-on and pull-offs I see but not much of a clue of what it’s suppose to sound like. This tab is in his C6/A7th tuning.

Ron:

I saw one of JB's Ricks hanging in a display at the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1983. Not far from Bob Dunn's guitar as I recall.

I saw JB perform twice, first at the Royal in 1985. I mentioned I had seen one of his guitars in Nashville and he asked if it was a 6 string or a 7 string. I did not know then and I don't know now--but I assume it is still there, whichever guitar it was.

Seeing him at close range (10 feet) in that historical outdoor setting was a very memorable experience. I think I was the only person in attendance and got to call a couple of tunes--"At Sundown" remains riveted in my brain.

To see JB perform any time is a memorable experience. Once is never enuf!

The HoF used to have a honky tonk Lefty Frizzell/Jerry Byrd display in the old museum, JB's pic/historical text w/VoluTone amp and B7 steel, but since the renovation/move they've redesigned the exhibit and no longer have much mention of him.

The (assumed for '39...) B6 played is most likely the one treasured by Jerry's first wife as "the only thing I have left of Jerry", and may/may not have stayed in similarly revered stature with siblings since her death.

$278.00!

I wonder what MY collection of JERRY BYRD music might be worth?

A 60 year project that remains incomplete to this day.

$278.00! I couldn't imagine.

I can't even begin to find the Kinney tune, any help? Do they have a main page/listing of what's available?

This one is listed as a CD remastered in Japan.
Maybe they only re-mastered a limited amount?

Still . . . I've seen this album in vinyl pop up here from time to time. And one could get it for $6.00 - $8.00
